A 23-year-old man arrested for pummeling a motorist in the face during a brazen carjacking in the Bronx has been released on a misdemeanor charge.
Miquiel Guerrero was arrested after he was captured on video violently attacking a man driving a Kia minivan on March 30, after he crashed into him on a Bronx street. As seen in the footage, Guerrero, who was reportedly driving the second vehicle, a Lexus, and five others got out of their vehicle and set upon the 53-year-old Kia driver. Guerrero proceeded to allegedly punch the man in the face repeatedly while wearing knuckle dusters.
The motorist was taken to a local hospital for a fractured eye socket and cuts on his face, according to the New York Police Department.
One of the five is seen jumping on the victim’s van before another suspect jumped in and they drove off. The other three reportedly jumped into an unoccupied Honda that was caught up in the crash and stole that vehicle. Guerrero remained on the scene — perhaps because the Lexus was in his name — and was arrested when police showed up.

“Police records indicate Guerrero wrapped a metal object around his knuckles when he pummeled the man, who suffered a shattered left eye and bruising in the face, nose and back. Officials did not specify what the object Guerrero used was,” the Daily Mail reported.
After eventually being arrested and charged with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, Guerrero was released without bail following a brief arraignment hearing in Bronx Criminal Court, according to the New York Daily News. The other five suspects remain at large.
With crime skyrocketing in New York City, police are hampered by progressive policies that release criminals back into the streets as fast as police arrest them. Policies that look to eliminate cash bail in many cases and reduce charges, if not drop them altogether — in the name of equity, of course.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has vowed to crack down on the crime, but there’s little to indicate this is happening.
In a recent “60 Minutes” interview, he took a shot at Black Lives Matter while calling for police to be given more “tools” to fight crime.
“Democrats don’t like talking about intervention,” Adams said. “But we have to lean into the discomfort of the immediate things we must do. Because you can’t say Black Lives Matter when a police officer shoots a young person, but does that black lives matter when a 12-year-old baby was shot?”
When asked why Democrats don’t like to talk about it, the mayor responded, “Because when you talk about intervention, you have to use the term of giving police officers the tools to deal with violence right now.”
