The brother of Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end who killed himself in prison after being convicted of murder, was arrested for the fourth time this year and the latest allegations are the most disturbing.
Dennis “DJ” Hernandez lives in Bristol, Conn., and police said in an arrest warrant that several people came forward recently to claim that he was acting erratically and that it appeared that Hernandez was planning shootings at the University of Connecticut and Brown University, according to WFSB — he played football at UConn and coached at Brown.
Police had to use a Taser to arrest Hernandez, and investigators said that they believe he is gravely disabled and a danger to society. Charged with threatening and breach of peace, he is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Hernandez sent threatening text messages to his ex-girlfriend and a family member, according to police.
“UConn program is going to pay unless I have a package deal and I get my estate and every single thing I have worked for. The coaches and university officials want to be selfish and selective about [expletive], well I am too. Very,” one message allegedly read. “They are going to get surprised. Love you, I would recommend remaining away from there because when I go I’m taking down everything and I don’t give a [expletive] who gets caught in the crossfire. I’ve died for [years] now and now its others peoples [sic] turn. I’m prepared to give my life so if I don’t get to see you on the outside know I love you always. Not all shootings are bad I’m realizing. Some are necessary for change to happen.”
“We’re taking lives if sh*t isn’t paid up. It’s been years in planning just taking notes, names and locations. They talked their way into this and it’s almost a point game,” he reportedly said in another message.
His ex-girlfriend said Hernandez also said that “he has a bullet for everyone.”
A threat allegedly made on social media read, “Will I kill? Absolutely, I’ve warned my enemies, so pay upfront.”
Four months ago, Hernandez was arrested for allegedly throwing a brick at ESPN’s headquarters after being turned away at the gate.
The brick was in a plastic bag and contained a note which read: “To all media outlets. It’s about time you all realeyes the affect media has on all family members. Since you’re a world wide leader maybe you could lead how media and messages are delivered brick by brick. Clean it up!”
He was arrested in May after leading police on a pursuit and again earlier this month after missing a court date related to the ESPN case.
