California powerhouse Dem changes party for GOP, says she’ll be voting for Trump

Another Democrat — this one also from California — has decided to leave the increasingly radicalized Democrat Party.

Moreover, this Democrat isn’t an average Democrat — she’s a former powerhouse who served as the Majority Leader of the California State Senate from 2005 to 2008.

The only catch is that former California state Sen. Gloria J. Romero hasn’t served in office since 2010. Still, what she had to say during a press conference this Wednesday was telling.

“Today I say ‘goodbye, adios,’ I’ve had enough,” she began. “I am now another near-lifelong Democrat who is joining the growing number of people … who are leaving the Democratic Party.”

“This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed. I do not recognize it anymore, and I cannot continue. I changed my voting registration today as the sun was rising to Republican, which has, under Donald Trump, become the champion of working people, the big tent. And indeed, I will vote for Donald Trump this fall,” she added.

“My biggest disconnect with my old party now has been over school choice, education freedom, and the right to have quality schools for all,” Romero continued. “Especially as Congressman Kevin Kiley and I have fought together, especially for school choice, for poor and minority children who are trapped in chronically failing schools,” according to KCRA3.

“The Democratic Party has turned its back on the working class, becoming the party of the elites and big buck donors. We see Democratic leaders lecture the people as to how to live their lives under the burden of COVID-19, climate change, and rampant inflation. While the out-of-touch Californians feast at the French Laundry, crime has spiraled out of control, grocery prices have soared,” she added.

She reportedly made her announcement alongside Rep. Keven Kiley, California GOP Chair Jessica Millan Patterson, and Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher.

“Like many frustrated Democrats, Senator Romero no longer recognized her former party,” Patterson said at the press conference. “We welcome everyone to join us in this fight to make safer communities for our families, better schools for our children, and a stronger economy for us all to thrive — because California deserves so much better.”

She later reiterated her newfound beliefs during an appearance on Fox News.

“This is a Democratic Party that I no longer recognize,” she said. “It has moved so far to the left, it’s been the party that marched toward war, toward censorship, toward authoritarianism. I’m among the latest that just said, me too, I can’t take it anymore.”

California Republicans were pleased by Romero’s switch.

“For years, Gloria urged her now former party to ‘wake up’ and start standing up for everyday families again,” California state Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones said in a statement, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

“Her leadership and experience have always been about serving the people, not partisan politics. It takes real courage to step away from the Party you’ve led and stand for what is right,” he added.

Democrats of course disagree and have chosen to be really nasty about it, as is their style, by mocking her and her fellow Republicans for sharing “old news.” Evidently, she already came out as a Republican when she endorsed 2021 California Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder.

“We knew then about Gloria what California Republicans know best: the grift is real,” Mark Gonzalez, the former chair of the LA County Democrat Party, said in a statement. “While Republicans are catching up to years-old news, trying to stay relevant, Democrats have been working to keep them from hurting the same communities that Gloria used to champion.”
