Canadian hockey star Nathan Mackinnon’s reaction to receiving a plush toy following an Olympic loss is going viral.
The United States scored a shocking victory over Canada in Milan when Jack Hughes scored the gold medal-winning goal 41 seconds into overtime. The agony of crushing defeat was evident as the Canadian team lined up to receive their silver medals, but it was Mackinnon’s reaction to receiving a plush of the Olympic mascot that stole the show.

The pain of the emotional loss clashing with the amusing sight of the mascot, Tina the white stoat, likely only made the moment more difficult for the team. Mackinnon couldn’t disguise his true feelings as he gazed at the toy before shaking his head and staring in the distance. Even a dedication to sportsmanlike conduct can only go so far when you just lost a gold medal game in front of the whole world, and all you have to show for it is silver and a plush toy.
