Dyspeptic Democrat strategist James Carville is sticking to his guns after wildly predicting that President Donald J. Trump will resign after this November’s midterm elections, which are shaping up to be a bloodbath for the GOP.
Earlier this month, the “Ragin’ Cajun” put out a video titled “Trump Will Be Gone, Sooner Than You Think!” on YouTube in which he claimed that the president will become frustrated and call it quits, cutting and running on the remainder of his second term.
“Everything that he tries blows up in his face. And he, I’m telling you, I think he’s just going to quit next year by this time,” the octogenarian pundit said. “I think he’s just going to f**king walk away because the Democrats control the House and the Senate.”
Carville doubled down on Thursday’s edition of the “Politics War Room” with Al Hunt, titled “Trump Will Chicken Out of the Presidency,” a reference to the acronym TACO, which stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” a frequently invoked Democrat talking point.

During the podcast, the two hosts were entertaining questions when the topic of the Democrats impeaching Trump if they retake the majority in the House came up, with Hunt telling the caller to “strike the word ‘impeachment’ from your vocabulary,” and that discussing the third effort would actually be welcomed by the president because he wants to be the center of national attention.
Carville then again predicted that instead of going through with being impeached, Trump would just run up the white flag of surrender.
“What I’m going to talk about is the possibility of resignation, because he doesn’t know how much his life is getting ready to change post-November,” the crotchety 81-year-old said.
“He’ll still be president, his power is going to just ebb out,” Carville stated, adding, “This guy’s got two years to go. He’s lost the whole public opinion. He’s lost the whole Senate. He’s lost the House. The lobbyists are going to start cutting deals on the other side.”
“You’ve seen this a thousand times before,” he continued. “The guest list for every cocktail party for everything is going to change, the Christmas party is coming up, and he’s just going to see that seeping out,” he said.
“And I think the guy is just soft, and it’s horrible when you get hit like he’s going to get hit. I think, I think he just gets JD Vance to pardon him, and I think there’s a good chance he just says ‘sh*t’ and just walks away. ‘It ain’t worth it. That’s the best I can do,’” Carville predicted. “I don’t think he’s tough enough to tough this out.”
“After being where he is. I don’t think he’s physically or mentally capable of doing it — of sticking it out,” he added. “I just think he’s fat, lazy and deteriorating. And to the extent that he can see where he is, he might just walk away.”
Carville has been living off of his reputation as the architect of Bill Clinton’s 1992 election for more than three decades now, having gotten credit for Slick Willie’s improbable win after he coined the bumper sticker slogan “it’s the economy stupid” that resonated with voters.
But the idea that the trash-talking Louisianan was some sort of mastermind has always been a myth because, more than anything, Clinton benefited from the presence of third-party candidate Ross Perot to siphon support from incumbent President George HW Bush in the 1992 election.
The administration mocked Carville’s claim of Trump resigning after he first made it.
“James Carville is a stone-cold loser who clearly suffers from a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” the White House said.
