Catholic school students berated, kicked out of Smithsonian Museum for wearing pro-life hats

In yet another of the outrageous displays of left-wing intolerance that have become commonplace in modern-day America, a group of Catholic school students was berated, cursed, and kicked out of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. for the cultural crime of wearing hats with pro-life messages on them.

On January 20, the students from Our Lady of the Rosary School in Greenville, South Carolina who had traveled to the nation’s capital to participate in the National March for Life, a huge demonstration advocating for the rights of the unborn, decided to get in some sightseeing after the annual event.

While at the museum which is a federally funded entity, the kids who were wearing blue beanies with the words “Rosary PRO-LIFE” were accosted by antagonistic staff members who subjected them to abuse before kicking them out of the building for not removing the hats while other visitors wearing hats were reportedly able to enjoy themselves unmolested by the “woke” bullies, Fox News reported.

A mother of one of the students who was treated in such a rude and unacceptable manner took to Twitter to post a picture of the offending beanie and give her account of the disgusting incident.

“My daughter just called from DC a dozen kids from Greenville just got kicked out of the Air & Space Museum for wearing Pro Life hats,” she wrote. “They were told to remove their hats or leave. Daughter told man they had to wear to find each other in crowd. KICKED OUT for refusing to remove!”

According to The American Center for Law and Justice which is representing some of the parents, “The museum staff mocked the students, called them expletives, and made comments that the museum was a ‘neutral zone’ where they could not express such statements. The employee who ultimately forced the students to leave the museum was rubbing his hands together in glee as they exited the building. We here at the ACLJ are absolutely appalled at this blatant discrimination and won’t let this behavior stand.”

“This is a clear and egregious abuse of the First Amendment, which protects their right to free speech without government interference, and we are ready to take action,” said ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow. “A government institution cannot censor an individual’s speech, much less speech from the inherently Christian pro-life position.”

“They should be allowed to wear the hats that they were wearing and to be able to express themselves,” said Nora Luz Kriegel, a parent who has two children attending Lady of the Rosary. “And I felt it was very wrong that this person harassed them.”

“Children deserve to be treated with respect and these children are standing up for human life. For the most innocent human life,” she added. “I just don’t understand at all in my being how anybody could look at something that says ‘pro-life’ and say that that is something that is offensive to them in any way, shape or form.”

National Air and Space Museum spokeswoman Alison Wood said the museum apologized to the group members.

“Asking visitors to remove hats and clothing is not in keeping with our policy or protocols,” she said in a statement. “We provided immediate training to prevent a reoccurrence of this kind of incident and have determined steps to ensure this does not happen again.”

“Biden’s vendetta against life keeps getting more diabolical,” the ACLJ said in a petition posted on the organization’s website. “Now federal officials are kicking kids out of national museums for wearing pro-life hats.”

It’s one of the most appalling abuses we’ve ever seen – blatant, unconstitutional discrimination and a violation of the First Amendment,” the petition reads. “These students were humiliated by their government for their faith and pro-life views. The ACLJ is fighting back, preparing to take legal action against the federal government, representing several of these children. Pro-life speech CANNOT be banned.”
