Charlie Kirk’s mother breaks her silence on Erika rumors: ‘We were 100% behind her’

More than a year after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, his mom addressed how he would have felt about ongoing harassment and how it impacted her relationship with daughter-in-law Erika Kirk.

As routinely and understandably closed off as the widow of the Turning Point USA founder has been since losing her husband and the father of their children, all the more has been the silence from her mother-in-law, Kathryn Kirk. This week, that silence was broken for a Vanity Fair interview as she disclosed how “upset” her son would be at the treatment of Erika while the two women have only “grown closer” through the experience.

“We are 100 percent behind her,” said Kathryn for Clara Molot’s piece covering Erika in her role leading her late husband’s business. “Erika and I have, through the trauma, grown closer.”

“We knew Charlie in a way that no one else did. We can look at each other’s eyes and we know the depth of our despair,” she went on.

Insights into the experience dealing with the media since her son was assassinated September 10, 2025 include her disclosing how a TMZ reporter allegedly contacted her “even before I talked to my daughter. Before I was running the car.”

Meanwhile, Molot indicated, “The only time Kathryn Kirk, Charlie’s mother, cries is when she starts talking about how upset her son would be over the way his wife has been treated on social media.”

Vanity Fair further detailed that Turning Point board member Doug DeGroote, responsible for Charlie and Erika Kirk’s finances, had prepared their will amid death threats and Charlie was slated to sign the documents the Monday after his Utah Valley University event.

This comes after it was previously reported that the family filed a notice of claim against the state of Utah, UVU, school and state officials and the school’s police department alleging they “failed to rise to the occasion” and thus “created a foreseeable danger to Charlie” through “a series of stunning failures and reckless decisions” in planning security for the event.

Regarding how her son went about handling his business affairs amid threats to himself and his family, Kathryn said Charlie shielded his parents from talk of succession should he have an untimely demise “because it would just go right into our fears.”

The report also shared details on Erika’s reaction to footage shown in the courtroom of the alleged assassin during the preliminary hearing, “‘Don’t do it. Don’t you dare do it. It’s not too late,’ Erika pleaded silently with the man on the screen, gripping Kathryn’s frail arm and crying out as she watched [Tyler] Robinson drop into a prone position to take his shot.”

On Erika’s participation in Vanity Fair’s New Establishment list, a Turning Point USA representative told Fox News Digital, “Erika believes in being open and engaging with people, including those who come from a very different perspective. As Charlie often said, when people stop talking, that’s when bad things happen.”

As for her mother-in-law, the representative said, “Kathryn Kirk’s words were incredibly powerful. This is a loving, close-knit family that is deeply protective of one another, which is exactly how Charlie was.”
