Cheating in plain sight: Gretchen Whitmer’s new voting law is RIDICULOUS!

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s new voting law, which is going into effect soon, is so ridiculous that critics say she’s blatantly cheating.

Signed into law in 2023, HB 4983 will make it so that starting on June 30th, everyone in the state will be automatically registered to vote unless they first prove that they’re not citizens.

Yes, you read that correctly. Instead of only registering to vote those who have proven that they are citizens, Whitmer’s left-wing utopia of Michigan is going the exact opposite route.

Michigan Republicans rightly think this is insane.

“Automatically placing individuals on the voter rolls without any accountability mechanisms is simply stupid,” state Rep. Rachelle Smit, a Republican, told The Federalist in a statement.

“It will obviously result in thousands of false registrations. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has demonstrated time and again that she has no interest in properly auditing the voter rolls. Michigan elections are already [in] shambles. Now, HB 4983 will turn our elections into the wild west,” she added.

Patrice Johnson, the chair of the Michigan Fair Elections nonprofit, was just as shocked by the law.

“They have to prove they are not citizens,” she said incredulously. “Who’s going to do that? Nobody on this planet is going to do that. They’re just trying to open the floodgates to noncitizens registering and voting.”

Exactly. It’s illogical, irrational, and doesn’t make any sense, unless, of course, the true purpose is to register illegal aliens.

In fact, the law itself says that “the secretary of state shall offer to register to vote” any individual who simply claims to be “a citizen of the United States,” regardless of their actual citizenship status.

Even now, before the law has even gone into effect, there are already glaring problems — such as a Chinese national living in Michigan having registered to vote and then voted in last year’s election by simply claiming he was a citizen.

“[Haoxiang] Gao allegedly cast a ballot at an early voting center at the University of Michigan Museum of Art in Ann Arbor in October,” according to Michigan Advance. “Federal law restricts voting in U.S. elections to citizens, and authorities say Gao falsely claimed citizenship when registering.”

The only reason they even busted him is because he later had the decency to admit the truth.

“In emails sent to local prosecutors and state election officials the day after the incident, Ann Arbor Clerk Jackie Beaudry said Gao admitted what he had done, after initially suggesting that someone else had used a green card to vote,” Michigan Advance notes.

After Gao was busted, state Republicans rightly began arguing that “common sense election provisions” like a citizenship check would have prevented him from voting.

Meanwhile, last week, the state’s Board of State Canvassers voted unanimously to approve a request by the Committee to Protect Voters’ Rights to gather signatures in support of a measure that would add a citizen check to the process of voting.

But none of these measures are likely to go anywhere so long as the Democratic Party maintains its firm grip on Michigan.

And that, critics say, is no coincidence.
