The Republican National Committee’s resolutions committee unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday to censure U.S. Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill. The rebuke, which stops short of calling for the Trump-hating lawmakers to be expelled from the House Republican Conference, is expected to be voted on by the full body Friday at the RNC’s winter meeting.

Both Cheney and Kinzinger, who are sometimes referred to as “Pelosi Republicans,” took umbrage over the move, releasing statements attacking the Republican Party while claiming to be fighting for the soul of the party.

…while attacking Donald Trump.

“The leaders of the Republican Party have made themselves willing hostages to a man who admits he tried to overturn a presidential election and suggests he would pardon Jan. 6 defendants, some of whom have been charged with seditious conspiracy,” Cheney tweeted.

In a follow-up, she added: “I’m a constitutional conservative and I do not recognize those in my party who have abandoned the Constitution to embrace Donald Trump. History will be their judge. I will never stop fighting for our constitutional republic. No matter what.”

Kinzinger, who is not running for reelection in 2022, echoed the GOP savior rhetoric in a statement he shared online.

“I’ve been a member of the Republican Party before Donald Trump entered the field,” Kinzinger said in the release. “My values and core beliefs remain the same and have not wavered. I’m a conservative who believes in truth, freedom, and upholding the Constitution of the United States.”

“Rather than focus their efforts on how to help the American people, my fellow Republicans have chosen to censure two lifelong Members of their party for simply upholding their oaths of office. They’ve allowed conspiracies and toxic tribalism hinder their ability to see clear-eyed,” he continued. “My efforts will continue to be focused on standing up for the truth and working to fight the political matrix that’s led us to this point.”

The resolution criticizes Cheney’s and Kinzinger’s involvement in the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, according to The Hill. The two lawmakers are the only Republicans on the politically motivated select committee, handpicked by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., after Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., refused to seat any members.

McCarthy had initially submitted his choices to the speaker, who then rejected his top two picks, U.S. Reps. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. The GOP leader then pulled the rest of his selections.

The two anti-Trump Republicans should take note that their biggest cheerleaders are Democrats and others on the left dedicated to destroying the Republican Party.

Well, there are also a few Republicans seen as RINOs by much of the base… people like U.S. Sens. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Bill Cassidy, R-La.

Meanwhile, in the real world…
