Officials from one blue city mayor’s own party were lashing out over his opposition to the president’s immigration policies with a damning accusation about Hizzoner’s main concern.

A hotbed of deportation activity since President Donald Trump’s return to office, Chicago’s sanctuary city policies have made it a go-to destination for illegal aliens, leaving local residents feeling slighted as much-needed resources were diverted.
Now, as Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) and a majority of aldermen stand firmly opposed to efforts to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducting raids to make the city safer, some lawmakers are slamming the mayor for catering to the whims of “hyper-liberal white progressives.”
“He’s not concerned about African-Americans, he’s not concerned about Latinos, and he’s absolutely not concerned about undocumented Mexicans who will bear the brunt of his actions,” said Alderman Raymond Lopez (D) to Fox News Digital having proposed an amendment to the Welcoming City Ordinance in January seeking cooperation with ICE that was= defeated 39-11.
“He is playing the game of chicken with their lives, and it’s disgusting,” added the official who contended Johnson was only concerned with the views of “hyper-liberal white progressives” in the city.
When asked if Johnson was listening to constituents, Alderman Nick Sposato (I) expressed, “Absolutely not. The mayor is a friend of mine. He’s way left. I’m way right. I don’t know why he’s not listening to the people. I got to believe the majority of the people don’t want these bad people protected in our city and our state and our country.”
As raids have sought to arrest and detain illegal aliens, two that had been released under the Biden Administration’s lax policies were reportedly taken into custody for allegedly murdering 63-year-old George Levin of the Windy City.

“I have Venezuelan gangs — the Tren de Aragua and all the rest of them — here fighting against my residents, fighting against local businesses, fighting against even the long-term undocumented who’ve made this their home, causing chaos and dangerous situations on the streets here,” asserted Lopez. “It’s important now more than ever to revisit this issue and do whatever we can do to work with our federal partners to get rid of these bad actors that are here in our communities and in our city.”
Friday, ICE reported specifics of another arrest as an illegal alien had been picked up and charged with allegedly soliciting to meet a child.

Asking the question so often ignored by leftists, Alderman Brian Hopkins (D) posited, “Why wouldn’t we allow them to be deported, especially if they’re guilty of the crimes that they’re accused of?”
Calling out the mayor, the alderman went on, “He believes that he is such a strong advocate for human rights, no matter what your citizenship status is, that if you’re here and you’re not a citizen and you’re committing heinous crimes, he wants to protect you.”
“That’s the soul of Chicago,” said Johnson as he held fast to the Welcoming City Ordinance and promised to “protect residents across Chicago, regardless of where they come from.”
