Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is vowing to defy the Trump administration’s efforts to clean up his crime-ridden city and seems to fancy himself as a Nelson Mandela-type figure who will “lead a resistance” against the federal government.
As the war of words heats up with leftists spoiling for a fight with the feds over the deployment of the National Guard to the Windy City, Johnson spoke in sweeping terms about the coming insurrection against President Donald J. Trump.

“This is not about immigration. This is about a president who wants to enact authoritarianism in this country, where the rule of law doesn’t apply to him and to one individual alone,” hizzoner declared.
“And that’s why I’m doing everything in my power to defend the people of this city and to lead a resistance that, quite frankly, is desperately needed to protect our democracy and our humanity,” Johnson said.
He approved of the message in a post to X, sharing a clip of the remarks and proclaiming that he’s “reporting for duty.”

The mayor’s remarks came after a dramatic escalation against Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) agents last weekend when they were boxed in by a raging left-wing mob, and the city’s police were given orders not to assist, an incident that one would expect to see in a third-world hellhole like Somalia and not the streets of a major U.S. city.
Exposing the federal agents at a time of intensifying left-wing political violence was an outrageous abandonment of duty from Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and Trump suggested that both of them should be arrested.

“Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also!” Trump said in a Wednesday Truth Social post.
Johnson reacted to Trump’s post, insulting the president as “unstable, unhinged, a double-minded individual that, quite frankly, is a threat to our democracy,” during a CNN appearance, also throwing down the race card, something that he specializes in.
“And it’s certainly not the first time that Donald Trump has called for the arresting of a black man unjustly. I’m not going anywhere,” he said.
He also used more inciteful language in likening the federal efforts to restore order and deport illegal aliens to the Civil War.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson: “The right wing of this country wants a REMATCH of the Civil War… The President has declared war on the people of Chicago and people across America.”

“The right-wing in this country wants a rematch of the Civil War,” Johnson told reporters. “I want that to sit in right now because the president of the United States of America has declared war on the people of Chicago and people across America.”
“I will not back down. Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power. What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?” Pritzker said in a post to X, having also recently likened the Trump administration to the early days of the Third Reich.
Democrats are now openly calling for an insurrection against the federal government, with Johnson’s city as the first battleground. That’s where we are.
