Chinese spy who swindled NY officials reveals Hochul ‘much more obedient’ than Cuomo: report

A Chinese spy who was embedded deep in New York State’s government found it much easier to wrap then-Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul around her finger versus then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The deputy governor listens to me more than the governor does,” spy Linda Sun wrote in a text to Chinese Consul General Huang in 2021, according to the Courthouse News Service.

Sun reportedly sent the message after she’d successfully persuaded Hochul to star in a short Lunar New Year video for the Chinese consulate and wish viewers “xin nian kuai le.”

According to Courthouse News Service, the consulate originally wanted Cuomo to participate in the video, but when Vice Consul Lihua Li asked Sun about it, she texted back with skepticism.

“Let me ask [Cuomo], but likely the LG [lieutenant governor] can probably do it,” she wrote back to Li.

Two weeks later, Sun forwarded the completed Lunar New Year video video to the consulate while praising Hochul for being so “obedient.”

In a statement to Fox News, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik slammed current New York Gov. Hochul for having been Sun’s pet.

“The Worst Governor in America Kathy Hochul not only bent the knee to the radical Socialists but is also fully compromised by the Communist Chinese Party,” she said.

“Hochul is the Worst Governor in America for New Yorkers, but the most obedient for the Communist Chinese Party. I have a sterling record standing up against Communist China, and there will be no spies infiltrating our state government when we Save New York,” she added.

Sun is currently on trial for allegedly exploiting her position as a liaison between New York State officials and the Chinese government. She reportedly accepted bribes and gifts from Chinese officials in exchange for influencing the governor’s decision-making.

“[P]rosecutors claim Sun used her position to perform favors for Beijing, like giving Chinese government officials insider information on New York’s Covid-19 response and blocking Taiwanese government representatives from accessing state officials,” Courthouse News Service notes.

Some of the “actions” that Sun took to benefit China included keeping Taiwanese officials away from the governor, removing references to Taiwan in state communications, quashing meetings between Taiwanese officials and state leaders, and keeping the plight of the Uyghurs out of state officials’ mouths.

During the pandemic, Sun likewise sought to make China look good by, as an example, having the governor give them a shout-out for masks and ventilators that they donated to the state.

“In April 2020, a PRC official informed Sun that several Chinese foundations would donate 1,000 ventilators to the Greater New York Hospital Association,” CNN notes. “In return, Sun told the official that Cuomo would call him to thank him for the donation.”

“After waiting two hours for the call, the official complained that he had not yet heard from Cuomo. In turn, Sun apologized and indicated that Cuomo would thank him in public and on social media for facilitating the donation which was scheduled to arrive in New York the next day,” according to CNN.
