For some, the lesson to not throw rocks if you live in glass houses was never learned and it shows. So when MSNBC’s Chris Hayes demonstrated his own deficiencies on that front in qualifying the lies of President Joe Biden differently than those of Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY), the internet was more than willing to accommodate an accelerated learning course.
Following a piece from The New York Times that called out a number of inaccuracies from Santos’ background, including having never graduated college despite claiming to have a degree from Baruch College, Democrats railed against the politician going so far as to contend he should not be sworn in as a congressman in January. As the congressman-elect went on to apologize and defend “embellishing [his] resume,” Hayes joined in the leftist digital stoning with a foolhardy attempt to simultaneously defend Biden.
“I think there’s a line between ‘normal’ politican [sic] bs-ing and conman serial lying, and he’s got infractions on either side of that line. I mean it would have been a pretty big deal if it turned out Joe Biden didn’t actually have a law degree!” Hayes tweeted in response to The Dispatch’s Jonah Goldberg, writing, “I think Santos is a total embarrassment and has no place in public life. But a lot of folks on this site dinging him seem to have forgotten how much both the current president and his predecessor ’embellished’ about their accomplishments.”

Lest it went overlooked, respondents to Hayes were quick to elaborate on what was actually being glossed over starting with his school record as just the tip of his fraud-laden iceberg. The Washington Examiner’s T. Becket Adams wrote, “sure, Biden lied about being the first in his family to go to college, lied about his scholarship, lied about finishing in the top half of his class, lied about having 3 undergrad degrees, and lied about being a professor. but, by God, the law degree is real!” and added, “just some normal politician bs-ing, folks. it’s part of ol uncle joe’s charm!”

Also of note from former White House reporter Jim Stinson was the fact that Santos, for the time being, appeared repentant about his misleading statements as he asked, “And has Biden ever stopped? He lied about talking to Hunter about foreign deals. He lied about economy. He continues to lie.”

The double standard was blatant and pointed out by many including radio host Mark Levin who tweeted “Why no calls by Democrats for Biden to step down for lying about himself for years?”

So you’re ok with Biden lying, plagiarizing, and just flat out making things up for decades? Why did he have to drop outta the 1988 Prez race again?

Still, many more pointed to Grabien founder Tom Elliott’s thread following the initial reporting on Santos where he provided an extensive list of “Biden claims” in direct response to Politico’s Sam Stein asking “Is there any precedent at all to this George Santos situation? Has Congress ever had someone with so many remarkable biographical holes?”

In case it wasn’t clear, one user encapsulated what many saw to be Hayes’ genuine message by writing, “What [Chris Hayes] means to say is that there is a difference between a serial-lying conman on my political team and a serial-lying conman on the other political team.”
