Chris Hayes uses police inaction to pound on unrelated ‘good guys with guns’ narrative: ‘It’s BS!’

Far-left MSNBC host Chris Hayes exploded with anger Friday at the “cretins” who believe the “good guys with guns” argument, claiming that the mass shooting in Uvalde proves that their beliefs are “BS.”

As previously reported, the mass shooting continued for over an hour allegedly because the armed Uvalde Police Department chose to wait for the arrival of a tactical team rather than storm the classroom inside which shooter Salvador Ramos had barricaded himself.

According to Hayes, this single instance of police incompetence and malfeasance disproves the often-cited “good guys with guns” argument.

“The police utterly failed with their guns. The good guys with guns in the school utterly failed to protect those kids. … In addition to the police response being an unfathomable failure, it is also just a profoundly upsetting demonstration of the bankruptcy of the arms race theory of violence prevention, something that Wayne LaPierre pulled out of the ether.”

LaPierre is the CEO and executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, and he’s long been an advocate of the “good guys with guns” argument.

“This decades-long project outlined by LaPierre 10 years ago — ‘just give everybody guns and arm an increasingly militarized police force, more and more money, more and more weapons, make sure they all have SWAT teams, they all need to have SWAT teams, because you never know, so if one of the weapons ends up in the hands of a bad guy, we’ve got a huge parliamentary unit that’s trained in go in there and stop them’ — it’s all BS!” Hayes continued in anger.

“They’ve built up to this moment. And here it was. Here’s the proving ground. And we just saw it fail in real-time,” he added.

He then played a clip of former President Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz arguing at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention in Houston, which is occurring this weekend, that only good guys with guns can stop bad guys with guns.

Hearing this seemed to enrage Hayes even further.

“If those are the two categories, I’m curious for Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, which category were the police in this estimation? Of course, it’s not two categories of people. That’s the whole point. Whatever Donald Trump and Ted Cruz say, the entire NRA worldview collapsed in on itself in a pool of blood in that elementary school in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday,” he said.

“And in the end, the sheer, brutal bankruptcy of what these cretins have been proposing — Cruz and Trump and Greg Abbott and Wayne LaPierre and everyone celebrating guns and gun culture and gun use today — it has been laid bare,” he claimed.

Except it hasn’t, and the examples that prove so are numerous.

One such example played out just a few days ago.

“Police said a woman who was lawfully carrying a pistol shot and killed a man who began shooting at a crowd of people Wednesday night in Charleston,” as reported this week by Charleston, West Virginia station WCHS.

“Dennis Butler was killed after allegedly shooting at dozens of people attending a graduation party Wednesday near the Vista View Apartment complex. No injuries were reported from those at the party,” the outlet noted.

Unfortunately, these examples usually receive zero coverage from the national press given as they almost always end in zero innocent lives being lost.

Plus, they’re not conducive to the establishment press’ narrative, which is that the only solution to gun violence is draconian gun control.

The irony is that, much like the vast majority of other mass shootings, the Uvalde massacre ended thanks to good guys with guns.

“Gunman Salvador Ramos emerged from his hiding spot and opened fire just after two Customs and Border Protection BORTAC agents, a Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue agent and at least one sheriff’s deputy entered the classroom around 12:50 p.m. huddled behind a tactical shield,” according to the New York Post.

This is key: “The agents returned fire and killed Ramos, putting an end to his reign of terror.

There’s no doubt that law enforcement should have entered the classroom far earlier, but the fact still remains that the mass shooting ultimately ended thanks to good guys with guns …
