Christie punches back at Trump over fat jabs: ‘Like he’s some Adonis? Fabio’s lost twin brother?’

It’s no secret that Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie’s mission isn’t to win the White House but to make sure that former President Donald J. Trump doesn’t, and the human torpedo was again deployed on Sunday morning television to attack the current 2024 GOP frontrunner on multiple issues.

One of the former New Jersey governor’s target coordinates was Trump’s weight, punching back at the ex-POTUS who has repeatedly jabbed the morbidly obese Christie with vicious barbs about his ongoing struggles with his waistline, and during his Fox News appearance on Sunday’s edition of “Media Buzz,” he mocked his former ally’s physique during his talk with host Howard Kurtz.

“Once Trump started hitting back at you on a number of fronts, he took aim at your weight, what was your reaction to that?” Kurtz asked, perfectly setting the table for what had the appearance of a scripted answer.

“Like he’s some Adonis?” Christie shot back, referring to the Greek god of beauty and desire. “Howie, there are tens of millions of Americans, out in your audience, watching right now, who like me have struggled with their weight. I continue to struggle. I continue to try to do better, and so do they,” appealing to viewers as if Trump is insulting them as well.

“And what’s that got to do with my competence for office?” Christie asked. “I ran the governorship of New Jersey for eight years, I think in a very energetic, successful way. Responded to Hurricane Sandy, working twenty hours a day for weeks…”

“I don’t know what his point is. You know what it is? It’s like a child,” he continued. “It’s a bully on the schoolyard who teases you and makes fun of you. But here’s my message to him: I don’t care what he says about me, and I don’t care what he thinks about me. And he should take a look in the mirror every once in a while, maybe he’d drop the weight thing off of his list of criticisms.”

Christie’s spiel about his own weight problems is a repeat of his reaction to Trump’s tweeting out of a doctored video of his campaign announcement speech to a crowd at New Hampshire’s St. Anselm College, a symbolic location for being the same venue that hosted Trump’s CNN town hall last month.

The video savagely poked fun at Christie in the manipulated image of him standing in front of a buffet table while balancing a heaping plate of food in his hand.

“Breaking news… I have struggled with my weight for 20 years. What I haven’t struggled with is my character. I’ll put that up against Donald Trump’s any day. If that’s the best he’s got, then he’s lost his fastball,” Christie tweeted in response to the buffet line video.

Christie also went after Trump on Twitter. “So Trump is some Adonis now? Fabio’s lost twin brother? Get real.”

“Like millions of Americans, I too have struggled with my weight,” Christie added. “But Trump isn’t unfit for office because of his appearance. He’s unfit because he has no character.”

“I don’t think I waited too long, Howie,” Christie told Kurtz on his belated jumping into the 2024 race. “I think that the right thing to do is to try to make the person who is in the White House the very best president he can be for the whole country. That’s what I tried to do. Turned out that I failed at doing that. So if you want to criticize me for not changing Donald Trump despite my best efforts, I’ll plead guilty to that.”
