Classified burn bag discovered in unexpected DOJ location

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed a surprising place where he found a “burn bag” meant to destroy classified documents.

Blanche joined Fox News host Sean Hannity for an episode of his “Hang Out” podcast, where the two discussed many topics of legal importance such as FISA court abuse, JFK archives declassification and national security leaks. During the discussion, Blanche mentioned that he had found a “burn bag” in what he says “wasn’t an obvious room where people went in all the time.”

Watch:

“It’s true what [former Co-Deputy Director of the FBI] Dan [Bongino] talked about, and [FBI Director] Kash [Patel] has talked about it as well, is burn bags are everywhere in the federal government for better or for worse. I mean, that’s the way we get rid of classified materials that we have extra copies of, or if you go to a meeting and there’s 10 copies of a briefing. So it’s not the existence of a burn bag that I think is interesting or problematic, depending on which side you’re on. This one was in a place where, I know, I get the point that an honorable FBI agent might have left it there because it was not where it would normally be to be destroyed. So I kind of stumbled on it, but it looked almost intentional,” Blanche explained.

“Was it a room that nobody knew existed?” Hannity asked.

“Yeah, apparently,” Blanche replied. “I’ve talked to Kash about it a bunch of times, like I mean, I don’t want to say it was like a secret room but it wasn’t an obvious room that people went in all the time and things like that. I mean, it’s- we found a room like that at DOJ, you know, a few months ago that, you know, it’s not fair to say it was a secret room, but it’s a room that had a lot of material in it.”

“It was actually from the Jack Smith investigation and nobody knew it existed. And so it’s not stuff that in the regular course we would have found,” he added.

“Well, do you think you found evidence in that room?” Hannity probed?

“Yes. Yeah, we’re looking at it. We-” Blanche started to reply.

Damning evidence?” the host attempted to clarify.

“Some of it, some of it’s already gone, a lot of it has already gone to Chairman [Chuck] Grassley. So some of the materials that Chairman Grassley released publicly and Senator Johnson’s released publicly already have come from those materials,” Blanche confirmed.
