Former President Donald J. Trump’s conviction in special counsel Jack Smith’s case against him over charges related to the so-called January 6, 2021 “insurrection” is a slam dunk with a jury drawn from an area that despises him and presided over by a biased Obama-appointed judge, and now a CNN guest has hatched a wild conspiracy theory.
During an appearance on Friday’s edition of “CNN Primetime,” anchor Pamela Brown was joined by former federal prosecutor Gene Rossi and attorney Marcus Childress, the former investigative counsel for the now defunct Nancy Pelosi-Liz Cheney J6 select committee, to discuss the underhanded Smith’s request for the gagging of the 2024 GOP frontrunner, effectively depriving Trump of his First Amendment rights.

“I think we can’t separate the politics from this and that Donald Trump stands a lot to gain from this and from his rhetoric saying, ‘Oh he’s trying to take away my First Amendment rights,’” Brown said, referring to a Truth Social post from Smith’s target from earlier in the evening after the news broke about Smith’s gag request.
“Biden Prosecutor, Deranged Jack Smith, has asked the Court to limit 45th President, and leading Republican Nominee (by more than 50 points, & beating Dems!) DONALD J. TRUMP’S, PUBLIC STATEMENTS. So, I’m campaigning for President against an incompetent person who has WEAPONIZED the DOJ & FBI to go after his Political Opponent, & I am not allowed to COMMENT? They Leak, Lie, & Sue, & they won’t allow me to SPEAK? How else would I explain that Jack Smith is DERANGED, or Crooked Joe is INCOMPETENT?” Trump wrote.

“I had an epiphany waiting to come on your show,” Rossi told Brown. “I think Donald Trump wants to poison this jury in the worst way because he knows that the evidence against him is so strong, and the only way he can win is to create a jury pool that is so tainted.
“I finished a six-week trial in February and March of this year, Judge Mehta, he did the best he could with the jury pool and he concluded he had a fair jury, but there were answers and responses in our jury pool — it was an Oath Keeper — that were just over the top. Donald Trump is multiplying that times five and it’s going to be impossible, or very hard, to get a fair and unbiased jury pool.”
What Rossi neglected to explain, depriving CNN viewers of important context, is that this isn’t some unheard-of underling from an obscure right-wing activist group but rather the man who is the Great Satan to the Washington, D.C. political establishment and the rabid American left as a whole, a figure who has been a fixture of years of fake news and propaganda and is loathed by an overwhelming majority of the geographic area from which Smith’s jurors will be plucked from, and nothing that Trump says is going to influence the lynch mob.
“Jack Smith is making this argument too, that Trump’s public rhetoric is just gonna further prejudice a jury. But, I mean, some might hear that and say, look, he was the former president of the United States, he’s a leading Republican, you know, presidential candidate, I mean how are you going to get an unbiased, unprejudiced jury with someone like Donald Trump?” Brown asked.
The segment is a perfect example of misinformation from the self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” which is now indistinguishable from the sort of state-run television programming typically seen in countries run by repressive totalitarian regimes.
