CNN inadvertently invites mockery when it pulls the plug on an entire section of its site

As CNN continues to make changes following the exit of Jeff Zucker, the media organization has decided to pull the plug on its opinion section.

The Hill reported that a source familiar with the change revealed that “certain writers” received formal notice via email.

“Just a quick note to let you know that unfortunately CNN has decided to shut down the opinion section,” wrote an opinion editor. “I hope our paths cross elsewhere!” The source did not give any additional information.

“We did make the decision at the beginning of the month to sunset the opinion vertical on CNN.com; as a result, we will no longer have a standalone Opinion section,” said a senior CNN executive.

The organization has been undergoing changes in hopes of saving money while improving its public image following the scandalous exit of former top dog Zucker, who was caught having an illicit, but consensual, relationship with a female network executive. CEO Mark Thompson has since sought ways to make the network both profitable and reliable again, though the polarized political climate in America has likely made that a difficult task.
