CNN mocks Republicans for investigating Biden: ‘It’s a very backwards-looking exercise’

CNN again gave Americans another reason to hate the media.

In a discussion of the GOP’s efforts to revisit investigations of former President Joe Biden and his family, Manu Raju and a CNN panel mocked Republicans for their “very backwards-looking exercise.”

“House Oversight Chair James Comer is returning to his probe of the former president’s mental fitness in an entirely new landscape after a recent book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson put Joe Biden’s physical and mental decline back in the spotlight,” CNN reported earlier this week. “Comer told CNN he is in the process of scheduling key interviews with Biden’s White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, and other senior aides who had all rebuffed his efforts last Congress.”

“Democrats sought to dismantle the Republican-led 11-month impeachment inquiry into Biden last Congress at every turn,” the report continued. “Comer told CNN that although those Democrats aren’t jumping at the opportunity to cooperate now, he does not see them as being obstructive either.”

In a recent “Inside Politics” panel discussion, Raju asked for thoughts on the “investigation so far,” with a focus on “allegations of political interference, alleged in the Hunter Biden case, the cover-up of Biden’s mental fitness, the alleged cover-up…and the use of the autopen.”

“Well, the other key difference from when Comer was trying to rally votes around impeachment and now is that Joe Biden is no longer president of the United States, ” responded David Chalian, CNN’s senior vice president, Washington Bureau chief, and political director.

“So it’s a very backward-looking exercise,” he continued to laughter from the panel. “One that will do wonders to enthuse their base and drive up online donations and get President Trump very engaged and excited on Truth Social.”

He cast doubt on the positive impact the investigations would have for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections.

The mocking tone and the panel’s dismissal of the significance of the GOP probes were met with backlash on social media, where X users quickly reminded CNN and the media of their complicit role in covering for Biden and his family over four years.
