CNN stalks Jack Smith to Subway, networks report ‘5$ footlong’ as exclusive video of special counsel’s ‘message’ to Trump

CNN took their hero worship of Special Counsel Jack Smith to an entirely new level on Tuesday, a day when former President Donald J. Trump announced that his arrest is imminent and during the network’s coverage of the big news, as the talking heads swooned over Attorney General Merrick Garland’s hatchetman dropping by a local Subway to grab some lunch.

“Turns out even Jack Smith can’t resist a $5 footlong,” gushed Dana Bash, treating viewers to “new and exclusive” footage of Smith exiting the restaurant where he had been stalked by reporters with a brown bag in his hand and walking away without answering their questions as they followed him down the street.

Bash also suggested that Smith’s mundane act of grabbing a bite to eat was of great significance as she welcomed senior justice correspondent Evan Perez who was on the scene with the hungry federal prosecutor.

“I won’t ask you all of the less important things about what he got and how he paid and all that, but what is important is the imagery here. They clearly wanted us to see him and that image to be very different from what we saw in the former president’s post, which is that he’s a deranged individual,” she said, referring to the unflattering terms that Trump has used regarding his chief government persecutor.

“Yeah. I mean, look, you can, I can count probably five or six sandwich shops between his office and that location that he was at earlier today,” Perez said. “He was—he stood in line like everybody else, and I couldn’t tell whether it was a footlong or is it a — or was it a six-inch sub, but look, I mean, we now are on watch for when this potential indictment is coming.”

Later, senior crime and justice reporter Katelyn Polantz added, “Jack Smith is tight-lipped. He was spotted today by CNN going to Subway for lunch, picking up a sandwich, leaving and not saying a word. So, no comment from the special counsel’s office on whether they plan to indict Donald Trump and when that is potentially going to happen for the second time for a federal case.”

Not to be outdone, chief national correspondent John King chimed in to say, “Jack Smith going to Subway today is a message to Donald Trump. Donald Trump tries to intimidate people, he bullies people, he tries to scare you away. That was Jack Smith with no words and a simple $5 sub in his hand saying ‘I’m not going anywhere.’”

Twitter feasted on the ridiculousness of CNN’s tabloid style which would be a better fit at a trashy celebrity gossip outlet than a major global news organization.

Unfortunately for CNN viewers, they were left hanging about what kind of sub was in Smith’s brown bag.
