A family spokesperson revealed on Friday the cause of the cardiac arrest that occurred late in July.

“After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified. It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” the family spokesperson noted.

“We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy,” he concluded.

James will continue to be evaluated while he is recovering.

The incident occurred on July 24 while Bronny James was practicing for his first collegiate basketball season at USC. It reportedly occurred on the court where the Trojans play and practice.

The 18-year-old was discharged from Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles three days after going into cardiac arrest at USC’s Galen Center.

The Trojans are expected to begin their current basketball campaign in early November. It is unknown if James will recover in time for the start of the season.

Bronny James committed to USC in May. He chose the Trojans over Ohio State and Oregon. James was the 33rd ranked player in his class, and he was named a McDonald’s All-American earlier this year,” Fox News reported.

“During James’ tenure at Sierra Canyon High School in California, the school went 95-22. He averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game his senior season,” the media outlet continued. “He is eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft, and LeBron James has spoken of his wish to team up with his son in the pros.”

Following the health scare in July, LeBron James sent out a statement regarding his son and thanked people for their support during his recovery.

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” James wrote on X. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”
