Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice commented on the “brutality” of the Hamas attack on Israel, where Palestinian terrorists killed more than 1,300 people including infants who were executed and, in some cases, beheaded.
Appearing Thursday evening on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Rice called attention to Iran’s role in the big picture and how the departure from Afghanistan factors in.
“The scale of this brutality, and the barbarity is something we really haven’t seen in a very, very long time,” Rice said, adding that the widespread hatred of Jews now on display around the world “has been a part of the fabric, unfortunately, of civilized places for a very long time.”
The former secretary of state under George Bush supported President Biden’s decision to send a carrier strike group to the Mediterranean before calling attention to Iran’s role in supporting Hamas, saying the military bases the president abandoned in Afghanistan would be very helpful right now in isolating the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.
“For starts, let’s not go back to the pretense that we can have an agreement with the Iranians about their nuclear facilities,” Rice said. “Let’s not go back to the place where we’re releasing funding to the Iranian mullahs who then just use that funding for Hezbollah and Hamas. That would be a good start. And let’s try again to isolate the Iranians in the way that we had earlier in the Bush administration and in the Trump administration.”
“The idea that you can deal with the Iranians, you might find reasonable ways to deal with the Iranians, it seems to me this is just one more example of what we’ve seen over this last few days, that the Iranians are a revisionist power, that they are the most dangerous power in the region,” she continued. “Oh, by the way, we gave up military facilities in Afghanistan, a country that has a hundreds-[kilometer-long] border with Iran. That was a mistake in its own right.”
According to Rice, the best way to deal with Iran “starts with isolating them.”
“I think it starts with what, actually, the Biden administration has done. I think sending the carrier battle groups into the region is a good idea, but this should really erase any notion that the Iranian regime can be dealt with,” she said.
Earlier this week, Rice spoke at a vigil in support of Israel on the campus of Stanford University — her words of compassion can be heard below:
