Congresswoman silenced from rest of hearing for calling Mayorkas a liar out loud, to his face

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was shut down on Wednesday and her comments were stricken from the record after she angrily called Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a liar during a meeting held by the Republican-led House Committee on Homeland Security.

That came after Greene called out Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) for having an alleged affair with a suspected Chinese spy. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had previously stated that he would not allow Swalwell to sit on the House Intelligence Committee due to his ties to the woman. Democrats labeled the move political revenge. They failed on Wednesday when demanding that Greene’s allegation be struck from the record over her comments against Swalwell.

An enraged Greene then confronted Mayorkas over the catastrophe occurring at the southern border which is resulting in the spread of fentanyl in the United States and, in turn, is causing the deaths of Americans.

“I want to know from you, how many more people do we have to watch die every single day in America? How many more young people do we have to see die? How many more teenagers?” the Georgia Republican firebrand demanded.

Mayorkas tried to respond with his patented objections that he rolls out every time he is confronted on the issue, saying, “Let me assure you that we’re not letting it go on.” An infuriated Greene said she was reclaiming her time in the committee and called Mayorkas “a liar” to his face.

“You’re a liar. You are letting this go on and the numbers prove it,” she charged.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) immediately moved to have Greene’s words stricken, asserting, “We have a history of being a bipartisan committee that works on solutions. Now we can disagree, but we’ve gotten to the point of the language that we’re using is not the kind of language that historically we as members of this committee have used.”

Greene stood firm proclaiming, “I will not withdraw my remarks because the facts show the proof.”

While Americans cheered her for calling out Mayorkas, her outburst evidently violated committee rules.

Committee Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.) found that Greene did step over the line and admonished that “identifying or calling someone a liar is unacceptable in this committee.” The chair then noted that Greene was no longer recognized to speak.

“It’s pretty clear that the rules state you can’t impugn someone’s character. Identifying or calling someone a liar is unacceptable in this committee and I make the ruling that we strike those words,” the Republican chair stated.

Greene had hit out at Mayorkas earlier during the questioning over his mishandling of the drug cartels, accusing, “Not only have you lied under oath. You just admitted your own incompetence.”

She went on to tweet later, “Republicans will never defeat the Democrats, we’ll never impeach Mayorkas, we’ll never impeach Biden, and we’ll never implement our conservative agenda if we can’t even call a liar a liar. Republicans should not let Democrats strike down our words and do their bidding for them.”

The Georgia Republican also clapped back at Thompson and doubled down on calling Mayorkas a liar, “Bennie Thompson can call Republicans insurrectionists, terrorists, racists, and all kinds of other names but when he claims it’s not right to say factual things, my words get struck down by a Republican-controlled committee. I’ll say it again, Secretary Mayorkas is a liar.”

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) echoed Greene’s remarks and informed Mayorkas that he believed he had violated 11 laws over the past two years and three months while he has held his post. He bluntly contends that Mayorkas must resign or he will be impeached.

“Ultimately, your oath requires you to secure our nation’s sovereign border with Mexico and do anything necessary to stop the Mexican cartels from trafficking endless wave upon human wave of illegals into America,” Higgins said. “Graveyards [are] filled from sea to shining sea with the bodies of American sons and daughters, dead from fentanyl. You have brought generational trauma upon our country.”

“I believe history will witness your era of service as a transitional time in our country. What was America like before Secretary Mayorkas and what was America like after him? It’s stunning that you could sit there and smugly grin as if you’ve not miserably failed your country,” he remarked making it clear he was disgusted with Mayorkas.

“I have no interest in asking the secretary any questions because he obfuscates and lies,” Higgins concluded.
