Crime-ridden city tapped to host 2024 Democrat convention, a showcase for party’s failures

The Democratic Party proudly announced the site for its 2024 convention and the choice couldn’t be more fitting with Chicago scoring the big party that, barring unforeseen circumstances, will be the official coronation of President Joe Biden who is widely expected to soon formally announce that he’ll be running for reelection.

With the choice of the Windy City, Dems have selected one of the several locations that serve as a showcase for their failed policies with rampant crime, a murder rate that could give many third-world countries a run for their money, entrenched political corruption as well as homelessness and squalor, a perfect choice in an ironic sense but it is a city with a strong Democrat tradition with the last time that a Republican was elected mayor being nearly a century ago.

“The Democratic National Committee today announced Chicago will host the 2024 Democratic National Convention at the United Center from August 19 to 22,” the DNC said in a Tuesday press release. “The DNC is returning to the Midwest, a critical Democratic stronghold: Illinois along with Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota – part of the ‘blue wall’ – were crucial to the 2020 victory of President Biden and Vice President Harris and to Democrats’ success in the 2022 midterm elections.”

“Chicago is a great choice to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention,” President Biden said in a statement. “Democrats will gather to showcase our historic progress including building an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not from the top down.”

Democrats will be in a festive mood when they descend on the city next August after their last big event, the 2020 DNC convention in Milwaukee was largely held virtually due to COVID, and the last convention to be held live was the 2016 edition in Philadelphia where doomed candidate Hillary Clinton wowed the crowd with her all-white pantsuit, oozing entitlement in her acceptance speech in anticipation of being the first woman to be elected as president of the United States until fate – and Rust Belt voters – rudely yanked away the red carpet leading to the White House.

Local Dems were jubilant at the news that Chicago would be in the national spotlight.

“I’m thrilled Chicago has been selected to host the #2024DNC!” Illinois Governor JB Pritzker euphorically tweeted. “I look forward to welcoming everyone to the Midwest & showing off our diverse communities, impeccable hospitality, and world-renowned venues. There is no better place to tell the story of @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris.

“I am deeply honored that @JoeBiden and @DNC have made this historic choice and am so proud of everyone we worked with to get this done for the people of Chicago. I can’t wait for the world to experience our first class city. Chicago will not disappoint! #DNC2024.” tweeted outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot who was so unpopular that she didn’t make it past the mayoral primary.

“The #2024DNC will be right here in Chicago!” Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson, a fire-breathing, anti-cop radical who replaces Lightfoot next month tweeted. “This will be a spectacular convention that showcases all of Chicago’s diverse culture, our beautiful lakefront and our renowned hospitality sector. Looking forward to welcoming @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris to our wonderful city.”

As could be expected given the oddly appropriate choice, the jokes practically wrote themselves as Twitter reacted to the news.

The Democrats won’t be the only rats in the Windy City next summer with the four-legged variety being a major presence in the once-thriving Midwest metropolis which has had a stranglehold on the dubious honor of being the rodent capital of America for eight years running, at least according to pest control giant Orkin which has had Chi-town ensconced at the top of its “Rattiest Cities” for close to a decade, the city’s most notable dynasty since Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls dominated the NBA in the 1990s, winning six league titles in eight years.

Whether “The City of Big Shoulders” makes it nine in a row won’t be known for several months but with mismanagement at City Hall, violent crime, and filthy squalor it will be difficult to dislodge it from the top of the garbage heap although Mayor Eric Adams’ New York City – which currently ranks second – has potential to seize the crown before the convention.

Long under Democrat control with generations of crooked politicians carrying on the fine tradition of perhaps its most famous resident, notorious criminal overlord Al Capone, the convention marks only the second time that Chicago will host the party’s coronation ball since the infamous 1968 event when leftists protesting the Vietnam War clashed with police in violent riots outside the venue where then-Vice President Hubert Humphrey accepted the nomination after President Lyndon B. Johnson declined to run for reelection; he would go on to lose to Republican Richard M. Nixon in the general election.

The Windy City also hosted the 1996 DNC convention where President Bill Clinton was officially nominated for a second term.

“The failed Democrat agenda in Chicago has led to closed schools, corruption, shuttered businesses, surging violent crime, and people fleeing the city,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said on Twitter. “It’s the perfect symbol for what Democrat ‘leadership’ has to offer.”

The GOP will hold their convention at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee from July 15–18, 2024
