A textbook case on how important it is for parents to remain “aware of the dangers of the Internet” found a man arrested and facing serious charges for how he allegedly used a children’s gaming platform.
The culmination of a two-year investigation now finds a 20-year-old from San Jose, California, being extradited to Florida as he faces accusations of soliciting a child. While “sexually explicit texts and photographs” were said to have been transmitted via alternative messaging, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detailed that Brandon Rodriguez-Silva allegedly first engaged with the child using the gaming platform Roblox.
According to a release from law enforcement, the investigation began in June 2023 when deputies responded to a concerned parent in Palm Coast, Florida, who was said to have discovered the inappropriate and sexually explicit exchanges on his child’s iPad.
“Fortunately, this parent acted as the sheriff in their home by reviewing their child’s messages and contacting law enforcement immediately after discovering a stranger was attempting to take advantage of their child,” stated FCSO Sheriff Rick Staly. “Cases like this are why it is incredibly important for parents to be aware of the dangers of the internet and monitor their children’s online activity. These online platforms provide predators an avenue to engage with unsuspecting children and groom them so exploitation can occur.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the alleged interactions with the child began on Roblox, where the suspect was said to have encouraged the child to converse on Discord before exchanging cellphone numbers.
“The messages between the suspect and the child contained numerous sexually explicit texts and photographs, but no nudity,” reported the FCSO as Rodriguez-Silva was charged with transmitting material harmful to minors by electronic device and soliciting a child or person believed to be a child for unlawful sexual conduct using a computer service or device.
Remarking on the duration of the investigation, Staly said, “These cases take time, and I commend everyone involved in this case for their determination so this pervert can face justice. I thank everyone on our team and our law enforcement partners in California for their teamwork in solving this lengthy investigation.”
The arrest comes weeks after Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) issued criminal subpoenas to Roblox, accusing the company of “operating in a careless way” and facilitating predators.

Meanwhile, as the suspect was held at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, California, until his extradition to Flagler County, a spokesperson for Roblox insisted to Fox Business that the company was strengthening its already stringent protocols.
“Our policies are purposefully stricter than those found on many other platforms. We prohibit the sharing of images and videos in chat, use filters designed to block the exchange of personal information, and our trained teams and automated tools continuously monitor communications to detect and remove harmful content,” said the spokesperson. “We have introduced over 145 safety measures on the platform this year alone, and as a first for the industry, we recently announced that we will soon implement age estimation for all users accessing chat features, which will further strengthen safety protections on Roblox.”
