New year, new gun control and the same old violent crime as California’s latest infringement on law-abiding citizens proved worthless within minutes of taking effect.

While some revelers continued to celebrate the dawn of 2024 and others had settled in for the night, a gathering at a “warehouse-type building” in Los Angeles turned lethal. Summoned to the scene off of Interstate 10 on the 2300 block of Porter St. around 1 a.m. Monday morning, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department arrived to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
“At this time, we have two confirmed fatalities,” LAPD Capt. Ryan Whiteman told reporters after first responders had begun to treat victims. Of the five people shot, the two fatalities were described as a male and female in their 20s while three others were said to be critically injured.
In total, eight people were reportedly transported to a hospital for further care with unspecified conditions as law enforcement remained in “investigative mode,” attempting to seek out witnesses and persons of interest connected to the New Year’s party turned deadly.

“People were running, falling. It was just hard to see because it was just so graphic,” a witness told NBCLA.
As it happened, the incident, for which no arrests had been reported at the time of this post, took place as California’s expansion of gun-free zones went into effect after a federal appeals court had made way Saturday by staying a temporary injunction of the “sensitive places” law that had been issued by U.S. District Court Judge Cormac J. Carney.
On Dec. 20, Carney had referred to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) law as “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court,” citing landmark decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller, McDonald v. City of Chicago, and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Incorporated v. Bruen.

“SB2 turns nearly every public place in California into a ‘sensitive place,’ effectively abolishing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding and exceptionally qualified citizens to be armed and to defend themselves in public,” added Carney of the law prohibiting concealed carry in 26 categories of places like churches, parks, and hospitals.
Newsom reacted, “This ruling will allow our common-sense gun laws to remain in place while we appeal the district court’s dangerous ruling. Californians overwhelmingly support efforts to ensure that places like hospitals, libraries and children’s playgrounds remain safe and free from guns.”
That “common sense” was slammed heavily on social media as users reacted to the leftist logic-defying reality that more laws do not stop people from breaking laws that already exist.
“But wait, isn’t that illegal? Wouldn’t a no guns allowed sign prevent this??” snarked one as someone else remarked, “Must be fake news. California has the most restrictive gun ban laws in the U.S.”
“Is this old news,” wondered another, “cuz California passed all those new gun laws to stop this. Right?”

I refuse to believe this Democratic run state with a governor who is anti guns would ever have something like this happen.
I mean look at all that beautiful artwork on those buildings, clearly the people there care about their community..— Bitchilante Rina (@MommaRina02) January 1, 2024
@GavinNewsom how’s that gun ban working out?
