DEI dunces stick together: Kamala throws her clout behind Jasmine Crockett

After leaving the door open for a triple crown in failed White House bids, a last-minute endorsement from former Vice President Kamala Harris aimed to tip the scales in Texas.

Friday in the Lone Star state, the last day of early voting ahead of the March 3 primary came and went with some high-profile support. While a trip to Corpus Christi included President Donald Trump covering a litany of races across Texas, Harris gave voters the chance to hang up on her with a remote pitch to “turn Texas blue” with support for Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

After redistricting in the state essentially booted the “faux ghetto” lawmaker from Congress, she’d announced her U.S. Senate campaign, facing off against Texas state Rep. James Talarico in the Democratic primary. Friday, The Texas Tribune first reported Harris’ endorsement for her “friend” via robocall.

“Hi, this is Kamala Harris and I’m calling to encourage you to please go vote for my friend Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic Primary,” the former vice president said. “Texas has the chance to send a fighter like Jasmine Crockett to the United States Senate. Jasmine has the experience and record to hold Donald Trump and his billionaire cronies accountable.”

“It’s time to turn Texas blue,” added Harris, who hadn’t ruled out her own pursuit of doomed campaigns with another potential race for the Oval Office.

While a number of corporate media reports showed favor polling that put Crockett ahead of Talarico, the spread was not so clear as of the close of the 11-day early voting period.

A University of Texas at Tyler poll showed the congresswoman ahead 55% to 37%, while a Chism Strategies poll showed Talarico with the edge, 52% to 40%. Meanwhile, Decision Desk HQ listed them both at 44% as of Feb. 25 with an average sampling of 12 polls, leaving them relatively neck and neck ahead of Tuesday.

The same month that she announced her candidacy, Crockett had said during an appearance on the “Native Land Pod” of Harris, “And obviously, she didn’t just run in one state, she’s run in a lot of states, right? And to this day, she remains a mentor and a friend and an auntie of sorts.”

Given the touted friendship, the fact that Crockett previously served on Harris’s second failed presidential campaign as national co-chair, and the fact that the congresswoman said she spoke with the vice president before announcing her Senate bid, one wonders if even Harris believes her brand is so tainted that she wouldn’t come out earlier with an endorsement.

Where it concerned support for Talarico, the Tribune highlighted that his campaign has made a point of harping on a clip of former President Barack Obama referring to him as a “really talented young man” while appearing on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast.
