Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh’s campaign has given Republicans a powerful tool to remind Americans of what American exceptionalism is NOT supposed to look like.
During a campaign rally on Aug. 18, Fateh was seen waving a Somali flag, speaking in Somali, playing Somali music, and seemingly pledging his loyalty to Somalia — all while campaigning for a position as the proud mayor of an American city.

In fairness to Fateh, he was born in the United States and supposedly identifies as a proud American. The problem, according to critics like conservative commentator Matt Walsh, is that aside from his place of birth, nothing about him and his beliefs exudes Americanism.
“He was born in America, but he’s not actually an American,” Walsh opined in remarks made in July. “America is not his home. He’s very proudly admitted that.”
Indeed, his whole campaign has centered on Somalia. And at one point during his campaign, he even referred to Somalia as “home.”

Classic!
These radicals see America as territory to colonize, not a nation to serve.

It’s not just Walsh who’s taken note of him.
“Omar Fateh out here waving a foreign flag, speaking a language that sounds like my GPS having a meltdown, pledging loyalty to Somalia, and asking Somalians to elect him for mayor,” podcast host Chad Prather wrote on X about Fateh’s recent behavior.
“At this point I’m just wondering if I missed the part where Minneapolis got a new zip code,” he added.
Eric Daugherty, a Florida Republican, added in a tweet that “Minneapolis is DOOMED.”
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, a Republican, also slammed Fateh.
“In case you needed more evidence that Omar Fatah puts America last, here he is waving a foreign flag and pledging his support to Somalia,” the congressman tweeted. “Minneapolis: You can’t let this lunatic run your city! He hates our country.”
Minneapolis has gone downhill, especially since the BLM riots of 2020.
The city has lost population, and the election of a mayor who prioritizes a foreign country over our own will only accelerate the decline.

The campaign rally video of Fateh has also attracted the attention of Sen. Ted Cruz.
“The radicals in today’s Democrat party hate America,” Cruz tweeted. “And they don’t bother to hide it.”
“This is the current scene in Minneapolis,” podcaster Benny Johnson added. “Mayoral candidate Omar Fateh speaks in a foreign language and waves the flag of Somalia at a rally.”

An X user named Kate commented that Fateh is a perfect distillation of everything wrong with America’s current immigration system.
“Omar Fateh was born in America. His parents were allowed to migrate to America and they raised their son to pledge his allegiance to a foreign nation,” she wrote. “This is not assimilation. This is the planned destruction of America.”
Conservative actor James Woods added that this “cancer has metastasized” everywhere in the U.S.
“This cancer has metastasized already from Minneapolis to New York and beyond, and now it’s just a matter of time,” he tweeted. “Obama injected the tumor into America’s heartland, Biden paid for it with your tax dollars, and it’s now an unstoppable juggernaut.”
Fateh’s radically far-left, socialist platform is similar to that of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a communist who was born in Uganda but later immigrated to the states — where he now complains incessantly about alleged “Islamophobia.”
As a long-time New Yorker, I still can’t get over Mamdani.
How the fvck does a foreigner who’s never held a real job walk around with massive security guards, preach communism, and be on the verge of taking over the financial capital of the world? pic.twitter.com/LZVUp1nUfn
