Shameless spin found the left painting a picture of a heartless Trump administration after a presidential adviser’s comments on the economy were clipped out of context.

Record-breaking gasoline prices under President Joe Biden and 40-year high inflation were of little concern to Democrats, but now that President Donald Trump is back in office, any uptick is received as an economic disaster.
Case in point, amid a climb in the price of oil resulting from the ongoing Operation Epic Fury against Iran, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett’s dismissal of long-term disruptions based on a positive timeline quickly became a viral attack from Democrats accusing the administration of viewing economic struggles of consumers as “the last of our concerns.”
“Hassett really said this out loud. On live television. It’s almost unbelievable until you remember they are both the dumbest and cruelest among us,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as he shared a snippet of Hassett’s appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
In the interview, the adviser stated, “But the fact is that the U.S. economy is fundamentally sound. And if [military strikes against Iran] were to be extended, it wouldn’t really disrupt the U.S. economy very much at all. It would hurt consumers, and we’d have to think about if that continued what we would have to do about that. But that’s like really the last of our concerns right now, because we’re very confident that this thing is going ahead of schedule.”

Leading up to the clip, CNBC co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin asked, “When you math out the possibilities within your own group about the economy and this impact here, and you say it’s going to end sometime soon, what does that look like? Do you say 10 days is one version, 30 days is another, 60 days is another, or are you on a different timeline completely?”
To that, Hasett responded, “Well, again, what we work off of is, first of all, what the president said, which is that it’s a four-to-six-week program, and we’re ahead of schedule, and we’re in the third week. And so then we, you could say, call that a base case. But of course, you know, I get paid to worry. It’s my job here in the White House.”
“And then you think about, well, what if it’s a little slower? We don’t have much simulating to do if it’s faster than that. But if it’s a little bit slower, what happens then?” he added before arriving at how a long-term Middle East conflict had the potential to “hurt consumers.”
Offering his own attack among others, Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy (D) managed to shoehorn the left’s current preferred line of attack, files pertaining to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as he shared the out of context clip with the caption, “Trump’s team of Epstein class advisors says it out loud more often than you’d think: ‘consumers are the last of our concern right now.'”

Unbelievable that the president’s adviser can say they are hardly concerned if consumers get hurt

Regarding the spike at the fuel pump, the president said, “Short term oil prices, which will drop rapidly when the destruction of the Iran nuclear threat is over, is a very small price to pay for U.S.A., and World, Safety and Peace. ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!”
To this specific clip circulating on social media, White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai set the record straight by calling out the original poster, “Aaron Rupar once again proving he is a Democrat operative and general hack who constantly cuts clips out of context. Kevin Hassett during his CNBC interview repeatedly discussed how he is constantly thinking about the short-term economic impacts from Operation Epic Fury, and how he is always examining new measures to mitigate these disruptions for everyday Americans.”
“In this interview, Kevin said what President Trump and the entire U.S. Military have been saying: America and our allies are making astonishing progress to achieve the stated objectives and neutralize the Iranian terror regime,” continued Desai. “America’s economic fundamentals remain resilient, and once the goals of Operation Epic Fury are accomplished, we will move past these short-term disruptions and have a safer, more prosperous world.”
