Democrats sing cringe ‘fight song’ to cap off DNC summer meeting

Days of cringe-filled moments at the Democratic National Committee summer meeting were capped off with a “fight song” for the “D-E-M-S.”

The three-day meeting in Minneapolis this week featured calls for the party to rise up and fight back against President Donald Trump and his administration, with DNC Chairman Ken Martin exhorting his party to bring “a bazooka to a knife fight.”

At some point, an unnamed Democrat decided to put sentiments to music and delivered what was meant to be an inspiring anthem for the party.

“At several sessions, a leader of the donation portal ActBlue shared a ‘fight song’ that the party could adopt, putting its lyrics on screens so that the crowds could sing along,” Semafor’s David Weigel reported.

“D-E-M-S, we rise! Stronger together, blue skies! Lift your voice, we’re bold and true, Onward, Democrats – we shine blue!” the lyrics read.

Earlier in the week, Martin set the tone by urging his fellow Democrats to “grow a damn spine” in the battle they created with Trump.

“Now look, folks, I’m sick and tired of this Democratic Party bringing a pencil to a knife fight. We cannot be the only party that plays by the rules anymore,” Martin said.

“We’ve got to stand up and fight. We’re not going to have a hand tied behind our backs anymore. Let’s grow a damn spine and get in this fight, Democrats!” the DNC chair declared.

The musical call to arms for Democrats, meanwhile, did not seem to spark the passion on social media.
