Dems howl about escalation in Venezuela, it never bothered them in Ukraine

Democrats are howling about escalation in Venezuela after the U.S. seizure of an oil tanker off the Latin American country’s coast on Wednesday, a move that sent a message to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that the Trump administration means business.

“We’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela, a large tanker, very large, largest one ever seized, actually,” the president told reporters at the White House, adding, “it was seized for a very good reason.”

The seizure comes amid intensifying pressure on the Maduro regime and a military buildup in the Caribbean, where the military has conducted a series of lethal strikes on drug trafficking boats, infuriating Democrats who have predictably sided with the narco-terrorists.

“It is needlessly and recklessly escalating a potential conflict,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), according to The Hill. “Trump seems to be stumbling into war without any endgame or strategy. He seems to be making decisions without telling the American people, let alone Congress, what his plan is in seizing tankers or killing supposed drug traffickers who come from Venezuela.”

“My fear is that the armada in the Caribbean and the reckless military actions that he’s taking so far are going to stumble us into war,” added Blumenthal, a man who lied about his Vietnam War service and has been nicknamed “Da Nang Dick” by Trump.

“Trump said the boat strikes were about drugs. Now he seizes an oil tanker. What is this really about? Regime change. Whatever you think about Maduro, Trump has no authorization to start a war with Venezuela. Americans do not want another endless war,” Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) wrote in a post to X.

“This shows that their whole cover story — that this is about interdicting drugs — is a big lie,” said Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), according to PBS. “This is just one more piece of evidence that this is really about regime change — by force.”

“More escalation and a muddying of the purpose,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) complained, according to The Hill. “Is it about narcotics? Is it about oil? Is it about regime change?
There were those questions about what’s really going on here.

The uproar over the Venezuelan tanker seizure comes from the same party that never cared about escalation in Ukraine, a war that they have ceaselessly cheered on and voted to underwrite despite the potential that it could spiral out of control into a larger conflict between NATO and nuclear powerhouse Russia.

The hypocrisy in wailing about a potential war in Venezuela despite their enthusiasm to keep feeding the conflict in Ukraine is totally on-brand for the Democrats.
