Dems soil themselves over Trump quip to Zelenskyy about calling off elections

President Donald Trump sent Democrats into a spiral when he joked about calling off U.S. elections.

In the upside-down world where Democrats mock serious topics and clutch their pearls over the president’s humorous quips, they had another cause for outrage when Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

When asked about holding elections in the future, Zelenskyy explained to reporters in the Oval Office that it was not possible under the current war with Russia. Ukrainians have not voted in a presidential election since electing Zelenskyy in 2019.

“So you’re saying during the war you can’t have elections,” Trump interjected during the Ukrainian president’s response.

“So, let me just say, three and a half years from now… if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections. Oh, that’s good,” Trump joked, eliciting laughs from Zelenskyy, who may not have realized he was just outed as a dictator.

But humorless Democrats, fear-mongering about Trump refusing to leave office and securing a third term, were aghast.

“Watch Trump fantasize about dragging America into a war as a pretense to cancel our elections,” an oh-so-serious Rep. Yvette Clarke posted on X.

“The room may have laughed, but HE. IS. NOT. JOKING. He wants to be a forever dictator, just like his idol Putin. And he’s going to feed his need for power, no matter how many Americans suffer along the way,” the New York Democrat fumed.

The X account for Common Cause asked, “Did Trump just float the idea of canceling U.S. elections during wartime??”

“That’s not a slip—it’s a dangerous signal. We can’t thrive with leaders who think elections are optional,” the group added on X.

“The cost of war is serious and it is absolutely disgusting for Donald Trump to float the idea of it for his own personal political gain,” wrote Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY).

“On brand and as forecast: “When Strongmen Go to War.” Then once at war they may prolong the conflict to stay in power. Netanyahu is the most recent example,” wrote historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat.

Brian Krassenstein found it “sickening” and was immediately pilloried by X users who also blasted the rest of the Trump-hating alarmists.
