DeSantis leaves door open for another White House run

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of another presidential run.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on his podcast Hang Out, DeSantis responded to whether or not he’s entertaining taking another shot at the Oval Office.

Watch:

“We’ll see. I mean, you know, I think that, in ’24, like in Iowa, the people that voted for Trump, if he wasn’t running, I would’ve gotten like 90% of those people –they were conservative voters. They didn’t want the non-conservative, you know, they wanted me,” the governor mused. “But the timing didn’t work out obviously for that. So you just gotta see what happens.”

While it’s clear that many conservatives, especially Floridians, adore DeSantis, the path to the presidency may not be so clear. If Trump endorses anyone but the governor, for example, Vice President JD Vance, the MAGA-supporting crowd is most likely going to throw their support behind whomever he picks. It is expected that Vance will take advantage of any remaining pro-Trump momentum to run in 2028, and if he wins, use his term to act as an extension of the president’s agenda. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that DeSantis should be counted out, it will likely serve to make his race for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue more complicated.
