Matt Walsh heaps praise on DeSantis for ‘direct and honest’ statement on transgender agenda

If conservative commentator Matt Walsh wasn’t a fan of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis beforehand, he is now that the popular Republican weighed in on the controversy behind Dylan Mulvaney, the biological male TikTok influencer who identifies as a girl while making a mockery out of womanhood.

DeSantis was asked about the current trend of men taking the role of women while being interviewed by conservative media personality Benny Johnson, and he responded in his typical no-nonsense style that emphasizes clarity over gamesmanship.

“It’s a total fraud,” DeSantis said, before commenting on Lia Thomas, a biological male, winning the collegiate women’s 500-yard freestyle championship. As DeSantis noted, the runner-up, the University of Virginia’s Emma Weyant, was a Floridian and he stated matter-of-factly that Weyant should be the national champion because she is actually a woman. He further explained that he issued a proclamation declaring her the best female swimmer in the contest.

“Some of this is, yes, taking away opportunities in athletics and some other stuff, and that’s really, really important,” DeSantis said.

“I think also there is just the issue of, are we going to be a society based on truth [or] a society based on deceit? If you take a man and they dress up as a woman, you’re asking me to be complicit in a lie. I refuse to do that,” he continued. “So you’ve got to tell the truth, I think that the truth will set you free, and let’s just be honest about what’s going on here.”

Walsh, who turned heads with his film titled, “What is a Woman?” responded to a clip of the interview shared by the DeSantis campaign’s rapid response team to say, “I am not interested in any Republican who isn’t this direct and honest about the trans agenda.”

The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles put it all into perspective while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year, insisting that “transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely – the whole preposterous ideology, at every level.”

“The problem with transgenderism is that it isn’t true. The problem with transgenderism is that it puts forward a delusional vision of human nature that denies the reality and importance of sexual difference and complementarity,” Knowles explained. “The problem with transgenderism is that its acceptance at any level necessarily entails the complete destruction of women’s bathrooms, women’s sports, all of the specific rights and spaces that women currently enjoy.”

“There can be no middle way in dealing with transgenderism, it is all or nothing. If transgenderism is true, if men really can become women, then it’s true for everybody of all ages,” he continued. “If transgenderism is false, as it is, if men really can’t become women, as they cannot, then it’s false for everybody too. And if it’s false, then we should not indulge it, especially since that indulgence requires taking away the rights and customs of so many people. If it is false, then for the good of society and especially for the good of the poor people who have fallen prey to this confusion, transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely. The whole preposterous ideology, at every level.”

As for Walsh’s take, with DeSantis being considered perhaps the one Republican who may be able to take on Donald Trump in 2024, social media users seemed to frame their replies around this potential match-up.
