Gov. Ron DeSantis said what many rational Americans are surely thinking when he followed up on his announcement Sunday that Florida would be conducting its own investigation into the second attempt on President Donald Trump’s life.
With a focus on the truth being told in a “credible” manner, DeSantis responded to a federal investigation of the attempt to assassinate the Republican nominee on Sunday by noting that the “same agencies that are prosecuting Trump in that jurisdiction are now going to be investigating this.”
Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, when the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was spotted 300-500 yards away with an “AK-47-style rifle.” Secret Service opened fire on Routh, who fled the scene before being apprehended on I-95 a short time later.
“I did announce yesterday we’re gonna be doing a state-level investigation,” DeSantis said Monday at a press conference in Orlando. “I understand that the Feds are involved, but we do believe that there were multiple violations of state law.”

“We also believe that there is a need to make sure that the truth about all this comes out in a way that’s credible,” DeSantis continued. “I look at the federal government, with all due respect to them, those same agencies that are prosecuting Trump in that jurisdiction are now going to be investigating this? I just think that that may not be the best thing for this country.
“Nevertheless, they have their prerogative, but we have our prerogative and so we’ll be making an announcement further along those lines in the… in the ensuing days.”
Trump’s indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence is out of the Southern District of Florida.
There is no doubt that Americans have little trust in the federal government, with any number of three-letter agencies playing a role in the de facto attempted coup of a sitting president in Trump, and recent stories of the CIA being involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy only add to the distrust.
And with DeSantis essentially poking the bear, there was concern expressed about ensuring that his security detail is “locked down.”
Poop is about to get real now. Ron better make sure his security is locked down, too, and I’m not kidding. https://t.co/SrbO1z6MBi

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
This is exactly what we have needed. Someone who has the courage, standing and resources to do this and to explain why he is taking this justifiable action. This is a leader.

This is an important moment of leadership
His ability to challenge the authority of these corrupt institutions is critical

This investigation is DeSantis’s audition for 2028.
If he leaves no stone unturned this will set him up well for 2028

Every state needs to operate along these lines.
Our federal government does not have our best interests at heart.

Thank you. Yes, the same local FBI involved in a questionable raid at Mar-A-Lago, the head agent being vocally anti-Trump in the past, may not have Trump’s best interests at heart.
And isn’t the local prosecutor also anti-Trump? He was on Newsmax today saying a State…

People have lost confidence in the agencies that investigated the first assassination attempt on President Trump. We are still waiting on the information. I feel confident Gov. DeSantis and Florida can get to the bottom of the second attempt. Already we see more information…

Just remember when you actually do find the answers to this crime make sure to tell the American people.
The America people are very interested in finding out who funded and convinced him to perpetuate this crime.
