DeSantis throws down the gauntlet with Newsom as details of their debate revealed

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) have agreed to participate in a debate that will be aired on Fox News in November.

Fox News host Sean Hannity will moderate the Nov. 30 debate, which will air during his 9 p.m. prime-time show and run for 90 minutes — the event will take place in Georgia, although the exact location has yet to be determined.

With Donald Trump holding a sizable lead in the GOP presidential primary, the planned debate offers DeSantis an opportunity to draw more attention to himself as a viable alternative to the former president and all the bombast that comes with Trump — the event will certainly fuel ongoing speculation about Newsom eventually being the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee after Biden withdrawals from the race.

DeSantis threw down the gauntlet Monday when he shared a brutal video on X about what a world under Newson might look like.

“Decline is a choice and success is attainable. As President, I will lead America’s revival. I look forward to the opportunity to debate Gavin Newsom over our very different visions for the future of our country,” he tweeted.

The debate will be dismissed as little more than a publicity stunt by those who oppose DeSantis — be it Team Trump or Team Biden — but people appear to be excited over the matchup. The Florida governor is not necessarily in his element at debates and going toe-to-toe with Newson could prove to be a great opportunity to hone his skills.
