The alleged “crazy person” behind an attack at the vice president’s home has both a record and an apparent alignment with gender ideology.
Monday, reports detailed that, while Vice President JD Vance and his family had already returned to Washington, DC, after spending time at home in Ohio, their Cincinnati residence was said to have been attacked by a man wielding a hammer. Now, according to a report from the New York Post, William DeFoor, the alleged 26-year-old suspect with an affluent background, recently started going by the name “Julia.”
“It’s unclear whether DeFoor identifies as transgender or nonbinary,” detailed the newspaper, “but he recently appeared to be posting under the name Julia DeFoor. Cops listed the suspect’s name as William, and his gender as male.”

According to the press release from the Justice Department, the suspect attempted to break the window of an unmarked federal law enforcement vehicle and, while refusing to follow commands to stop and put down the weapon, used the hammer on the windows of the residence.
An attempt to flee was thwarted by the U.S. Secret Service and Cincinnati Police Department, and the suspect was taken into custody to face both federal and local charges.
Details about the suspect’s record include dismissed charges of trespassing at the UC Health psychiatric and emergency services during an April 2023 incident, dropped in November 2023 when the judge ruled he was not mentally competent to stand trial, according to Cincinnati.com.
The son of William DeFoor Jr., a Harvard University graduate, pediatric urologist, and professor at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine, the suspect was also said to have faced two counts of vandalism at a local interior design company for which he was sentenced to two years of mandatory mental health treatment in 2024.
The Post outlined that the suspect’s family owns a $1.3 million house in the Hyde Park neighborhood, and records show donations of at least $5,000 to the 2020 Biden-Harris campaign and the 2024 Harris-Walz campaign.
Vance offered his own statement about the incident on X as the suspect appeared to be only the latest example of a violent gender ideologue, expressing, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As fas as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I’m grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC.”
“One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service,” he added. “In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.”

Having reportedly done over $28,000 in damages to the Vances’ home, as the windows included “enhanced security assets” that are the property of the United States government, the suspect faces federal charges of damaging government property, engaging in physical violence against any person or property in a restricted building or grounds, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers.
He also faces charges in Hamilton County of criminal damage, obstructing official business, criminal trespass, and felony vandalism.
If found guilty of the federal charges, he faces up to 10 years in prison for physical violence on restricted grounds and up to 20 years in prison for assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers.
