The prospect of Trump appointee Kash Patel becoming a top law enforcement officer has all the right people running scared.
Take entrenched Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin for instance who’s reportedly been on a witch hunt of his own, digging for dirt on the man who’s set to run the FBI under the Trump administration.
The Hill reported that several government agencies where Patel worked have been asked to turn over personal records to Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“The Director must be able to execute the FBI’s mission in a nonpartisan, impartial manner that is above reproach. The credible allegations against Mr. Patel outlined above are deeply troubling, and the Committee is unable to properly consider his nomination without more information on his underlying conduct,” Durbin wrote in letters addressed to the Justice Department, Department of Defense, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), according to The Hill.
Durbin’s request reportedly asks for information from the departments regarding Patel’s alleged improper use of classified documents regarding Trump, slowing the peaceful transition of power to Biden, and seeks details about his relationship with John Ratcliffe, Trump’s nominee to head the CIA.
Durbin’s letter to the DOJ claims Ratcliffe had deemed Patel as a “trustworthy” figure to work with a former DOJ official Jeffrey Clark, who was backing Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020, The Hill reported. As mentioned, the establishment Democrat also accuses Patel of attempting to thwart the incoming Biden administration’s transition process.
“During his tenure, Mr. Patel was accused of impeding the incoming Biden Administration’s transition work with the Defense Department, injecting himself and another political appointee into processes normally handled by nonpartisan career civilian and military officials, and ignoring requests from the Biden Administration’s transition team,” Durbin wrote.
Patel is often referred to as a controversial figure due, in part, to his outspoken criticism of government corruption, a trait freedom-loving patriots admire. Swamp-embedded politicians on the other hand… not so much.
For instance, here’s a clip of Patel blasting Durbin below for lack of transparency.

“Kash is proud of his service at the DOJ, DOD, and DNI, and looks forward to answering any of Senator Durbin’s questions at his confirmation hearing,” said Trump spox Alex Pfeiffer.
A confirmation hearing date for Patel has not yet been set, but it’s sure to bring fireworks with Dems like Durbin slinging dubious allegations. For example, here is Durbin grilling Pam Bondi, Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, during her confirmation hearing about QAnon:
