Hollywood A-lister George Clooney’s influence took a major hit with Kamala Harris’ landslide loss, prompting the “disheartened” actor to take a break from the politics business.
The 63-year-old “Oceans Eleven” star was all-in on the effort to repackage the national joke as a serious presidential candidate but unlike things do in the movies, the Harris campaign didn’t have a happy ending with the Democrat nominee on the short end of an Electoral College beatdown as well as the popular vote.
Having played a big part in the ouster of President Joe Biden as the party’s rightful nominee, Clooney is getting blamed by some for a loss that could be even more disappointing on the left coast than in 2016 when Hillary Clinton went down to defeat, and he’s reportedly taking a “step back” after being scapegoated for the return of Donald J. Trump to the White House.

“George feels that the backlash he is getting for Kamala losing is not at all warranted,” an unnamed source told the Daily Mail. “He thinks it is completely unfair to try and make him a scapegoat for her loss.”
“He has backed the Democratic Party and invested so much time and money into them, but he is going to take a step back for now. He feels very disheartened,” the source added.
Biden was stubbornly refusing to bow to demands to step aside after his dumpster fire CNN debate with Trump in late June and appeared to be dug in deeper than the proverbial Alabama tick until Clooney, long a BFF of former President Barack Obama, penned an op-ed for the New York Times calling for Joe to go, just weeks after he co-hosted a swanky Hollywood fundraiser for the 81-year-old.
“It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” wrote the actor.
Biden never recovered.
Clooney then threw his celebrity clout behind Harris.
“President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest,” he said in a statement to CNN after Biden abruptly quit the race and Kamala was crowned, although like Obama, he didn’t rush to endorse her.
“When he wrote his op-ed, George did not say “Biden is not fit to be president choose Kamala”. The Democrats jumped on Kamala and within days she was the candidate.” the source told the Daily Mail. “George believes that they should have taken a step back and looked at their options. That is why he did not endorse her right away.”
But even though he was at first hesitant, he enthusiastically staked his reputation on backing Harris, who until late July was a national joke, even to Democrats and it was inconceivable that she would be the party’s nominee – and likely wouldn’t have been if they practiced the “democracy” that they preach about and held a primary process.
Since the election, some on social media have taken shots at Clooney after Harris was beaten like a rug by Trump.
I would like to take a moment to thank George Clooney for shoving the most incompetent candidate down America’s throat to ensure a Trump victory. #MAGA pic.twitter.com/EF1rB3v4i2

I’m a Democrat & voted for Trump. If the rest of the Democrats who voted for Harris feel the need to blame anyone for the loss? Blame George Clooney. He started the shitshow that ended in defeat overnight. When will Hollywood quit telling America what THEY think WE should do!

George Clooney knee capped the Democrats. He lead the movement to replace Biden with Harris and ultimately Trumps victory. Unintended consequences I know, but thanks anyway George

Back in August, it was reported that Clooney’s New York Times op-ed was part of a “calculated” effort for a future White House run but now it looks like the only house that he’s going to end up in politically is the dog house.
