Disney jacks up theme park admission prices amid attendance woes

The Walt Disney Company is reportedly spiking ticket and parking prices amid an ongoing financial downturn.

“At Disney World, the price of annual passes will rise between $40 and $50, depending on the pass, topping out at $1,449 for the Disney Incredi-pass. Parking at the parks will rise from $25 to $30, with the company noting that the price is now consistent with competitor parks in central Florida,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile at Disneyland, prices for virtually everything are going up, including daily/multi-day tickets, annual passes, and parking.

Disney claims the price hikes are due to “new investments.”

“We are constantly adding new, innovative attractions and entertainment to our parks and, with our broad array of pricing options, the value of a theme park visit is reflected in the unique experiences that only Disney can offer,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement.

But critics believe the price hikes are just another consequence of the company going  “woke.” After all, the price hikes comes amid an ongoing decline in the company’s stock price. After previously hitting a high of $197.16 per share in early 2021, it dropped to a low of a only $93.20 per share by this past March and is now down to $84.35 per share as of Sunday.

The decline follows Disney’s embrace of “wokeness,” which became apparent in 2021 when it began publicly lobbying against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill. Numerous additional examples of the company’s “wokeness” began to emerge soon after.

The examples included a video of Disney producer Latoya Raveneau revealing during an all-hands meeting that her team was working to push a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda.”

Making matters worse, Disney has also been losing money on streaming.

“In Q4 this year their streaming business lost an eye-watering $1.5 billion. Not only is that crazy high, but it’s way more than the $630 million that it lost the same time the year before. The losses are also expected to continue for some time yet,” Forbes reported in late 2022.

Yet instead of rethinking its “woke” stance, the company has doubled, tripled, and quadrupled down on “wokeness.”

Over the summer, for example, it was discovered that Disney’s latest “Peter Pan”-themed film, “Peter Pan & Wendy,” is brimming with “woke” changes.

For example, the “Lost Boys” now include girls because of “diversity” and “inclusion.” Likewise, Tinkerbell is black, and Peter Pan is Indian. In the original story, both were white. Meanwhile, Captain Hook, the bad guy, conveniently remains white.

This isn’t even the worst of it. In February, the latest season of the “Proud Family” debuted on Disney+, and it was a “woke” nightmare.

“The new season contains elements of Critical Race Theory, identifies one of the White characters in the show as guilty of ‘white fragility,’ denounces Abraham Lincoln as not ‘caring’ about ending slavery, and had the children discuss toppling statues of people they disagree with,” according to Fox News.

“The young children in the show chanted that ’emancipation isn’t freedom’ and attacked the 16th president as wanting to ‘deport’ Black people. Lincoln scholar David J. Kent told Fox News the show’s accusations were a mix of misrepresentation, non sequitur, and falsehoods.’”

This “woke” nonsense has been accompanied by “box office bombs, subscriber losses,” and even layoffs:

The only good news is that Disney has slowly begun to backtrack, though whether it’s too little too late remains to be seen.

“Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger is promising to lower the temperature after the company stepped deep into the culture wars under his predecessor and angered many conservatives, according to an analyst’s note from this week,” Fox Business Network reported last month.

“Needham & Company analyst Laura Martin wrote in a report released Wednesday that Iger told investors the day before that his primary goal is to ‘quiet the noise,’ because culture wars are bad for business,” the network added.

Something else also happened last month. Disney reportedly cancelled “Pride” because of backlash.

Whether or not these efforts will be enough to calm the storm remains to be seen, especially in light of just how far into the “woke” universe that Wall Disney had, unfortunately, treaded …
