In what may be a hopeful sign of a return to normalcy, where an entire segment of society is no longer celebrated for who they choose to have sex with, “Gay Days Orlando,” which culminates with an annual unofficial LGBTQ+ gathering at Walt Disney World, appears to be on the ropes.
Organizers took to Instagram to announce a “pause” to this year’s events, citing a loss of sponsorship support.
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to pause the GayDays Orlando event scheduled for June 2026,” the organization’s post said. “Changes to our host hotel agreement, the loss of key sponsorship support, and broader challenges currently impacting LGBTQIA+ events nationwide made it impossible to deliver the experience our community deserves.”
“This is a pause — not an ending,” the group added. “For more than 30 years, GayDays has been built by and for our community. Our focus now is on reimagining the future and returning with a stronger, more sustainable event.”
The GayDays website stressed that “no final determination has been made regarding the 2026 event.”
“Our team is actively working behind the scenes to evaluate venue options and determine the best path forward. We are making progress and will share an official update as soon as a final decision is confirmed,” read a statement on the page.
The event began in 1991, with participants wearing red shirts to stand out in the Disney crowd — though many already stood out with their sexually flamboyant behavior.
