Doctor tells Joy Reid black people are seeing increase in heart disease due to Michelle Obama jokes

Did you know that joking about former first lady Michelle Obama’s gender could be giving black people heart problems?

Dr. Frita Fisher joined Joy Reid to state that “public humiliation,” such as the claim “Michelle Obama is a man” made at the Freedom 250 UFC fight, is part of the reason black people face higher levels of “cardiovascular negative outcomes.” Other causes include “systemic racism” and “discrimination.”

“I felt my heart having palpitations, I felt my chest tighten, I felt personally humiliated as a black woman, as first lady Michelle Obama is, and it took me – immediately, Joy – to the data we have. We literally have data that systemic racism, chronic discrimination and also public humiliation, we have data that these things increase cardiovascular negative outcomes.” Fisher said. “And as I sat there experiencing those emotions, I know I’m not alone, I realize, this is what happens. This is why so many black people, and black women specifically, have poorer cardiovascular outcomes when compared to other ethnic groups. This is why so many of us have increased strokes. It actually is real.”
