DoorDash driver, charged with a felony, gives excuse for shooting pepper spray in food

A DoorDash driver has been arrested after allegedly spraying an irritant on a customer’s food delivery.

Kentucky woman Kourtney N. Stevenson was taken into custody by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office on Friday after Mark Cardin’s wife became ill while eating the Arby’s that Stevenson had delivered.

Video footage from the couple’s doorbell camera shows a purple-haired delivery person, identified as Stevenson, drop a bag off on the porch of the house. After sending a photo of the food, she proceeds to spray what is believed to be an irritant onto the food before taking her leave.

The couple explained the situation to both DoorDash and the police, which resulted in the driver’s arrest on several felony charges, including battery resulting in moderate injury and consumer product tampering.

“Residents should be able to trust that the food they order for their families is safe. When someone violates that trust and endangers others, we will respond with urgency, and we will pursue charges,” said Sheriff Noah Robinson.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, the woman admitted to spraying the irritant, but claims that she was not trying to harm the customers. Instead, she says she had been aiming at a spider during the December 7 incident.

“She told detectives that she used pepper spray, not on the food, but to spray a spider she said she saw while making the delivery. She explained that she is terrified of spiders. The overnight low was 35 degrees Fahrenheit. At that temperature, outdoor spiders in Indiana are not active and would not be capable of crawling on exposed surfaces,” the office stated.

“Stevenson has been charged with two level 6 felony counts of battery resulting in moderate injury, as well as two level 5 felony counts of consumer product tampering,” Fox News reported. “As of Friday, she was being held without bond until extradition to Indiana. The warrant carries a $3,500 cash bond, authorities said.”

For their part, DoorDash confirmed that they have terminated Stevenson’s account, meaning she no longer works as a delivery driver.

As BizPac Review previously reported, Cardin encouraged people who use food delivery services to invest in a doorbell camera, because one never knows the type of person handling their food.

“We live in a terrible world right now. Horrific. People are mean for no reason. There was no reason to do what she done,” he said. “I would say to anybody, if you order food on any kind of delivery service, make sure you have a doorbell. This is making me second guess ever ordering food from anywhere ever again.”
