Dr. Phil diagnoses America’s division problem, says it’s not ‘left versus right’ tearing people apart

The acrimonious political battle between the traditional left and right isn’t what has torn the country apart, rather it’s the fault of the dark and ruthless forces on the “fringe” according to Dr. Phil McGraw.

The nation’s most beloved television psychologist joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on the latest edition of his podcast “The Verdict” for a wide-ranging discussion on what is truly ailing America today.

The 73-year-old Dr. Phil, who is retiring from his longtime TV gig, was talking about things that can get some people “canceled” in the current environment that is ruled by ruthless authoritarian thought police who mete out their cruel punishment that he likened to the dystopian world portrayed by George Orwell.

“Whether you’re talking about science, history, biology, you pick it,” he told Cruz. “What’s happening right now, in my opinion, is the narrative in America is being hijacked. And it’s being hijacked by the fringe. It’s not even, it’s not like the Left versus the Right. It’s the fringe. And I call it the tyranny of the fringe.”

McGraw drew on his expertise in clinical psychology to explain how techniques of emotional extortion are used by “factions in the fringe” to force mental compliance with issues such as transgenderism and slavery, a barbaric practice that was ended in the U.S. over a century and a half ago but was resurrected as a modern-day threat by the “woke” left in Obama-era America.

“And if you don’t fall in line, then that’s where canceled culture comes in, and you get attacked, and you get attacked on the internet, to the point that they’ll contact your job, they’ll contact your church, they’ll contact your friends,” Dr. Phil said.

“And there’s something that I know, a lot of people listening, read ‘1984.’ Which by the way, was written in 1948, by Orwell, how prophetic was he in writing this, and he talked about how people would be ‘unpersoned,’” he continued, referring to the British author’s classic 1949 novel about a society that exists under the jackboot of a totalitarian government.

“We call it canceled culture, they call it ‘unpersoned,’ where they would just, they would just delete that person, they would just take away everything from them. And that’s what happens in canceled culture,” McGraw said.

“You take away people’s livelihood, you take away their support system, you take away their friends. And I’m not saying there aren’t people in this society that have done terrible and egregious things that don’t deserve to play in the game. But there are also a lot of people that get swept up into not buying into the rhetoric,” he added.

McGraw said that “a tiny percent of fringe tyrants” will target and attack those who don’t bow to extreme “woke” orthodoxy online and will seek to “eliminate them.”

Dr. Phil also spoke about the “targeting” of children on social media, a sinister tactic of the extreme left.

“And if you want to create chaos in a society, where do you start? You attack the children,” he told Cruz. “If you get them to hate themselves, be questioned about who they are, what they are, what’s that going to do to the next generation and the next generation? And right now, we have the highest levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness among our young people.”
