The golden era of Hollywood glitz and glamor is a thing of the past now that the leftward cultural shift has thrown a damper on Tinseltown’s legendary parties which have become a bore due to people having to walk on eggshells to avoid cancelation by the “woke” thought police.” Just take it from iconic star Joan Collins, who at 90 years old, recalls the good old days.
In an interview with Best magazine, the legendary actress who is best known for her role as the ex-wife of oil tycoon Blake Carrington in the long-running 1980s television series “Dynasty” and has starred on the big and little screen since the 1950s, talked of how things have changed as time has passed and an always liberal industry took a turn into the rigid far-left ideology of modern times that has more in common with classic Soviet-style totalitarianism than the freewheeling Hollywood hedonism of bygone days.
“The parties I go to now are kind of… dull,” she told the outlet. “They are red carpet things in which everybody does behave. If you don’t behave now you are going to get canceled.”
The London-born legend who has lived in the U.S. since she was 20 years old and has worked with the greatest actors and actresses over her long and storied career said that only a few major movie stars are left in the industry, namely Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Keanu Reeves. and Brad Pitt.
“I think Nicole Kidman is fabulous and Margot Robbie is one of the great beauties,” she told Best. “Particularly Brad, he is like one of the movie stars of the Golden Age.”
The acclaimed actress, who has always been outspoken in her views, told the outlet that she isn’t about to dial it down because of the impact of larger societal shifts on the industry.
“I have always spoken and said what I thought,” Collins said. “I can’t be a hypocrite. I can’t say, ‘Oh, you look gorgeous’ when someone looks hideous, which is what happens in Hollywood. It is embarrassing, I think.”
In 2022, Collins told The New York Times that the #MeToo movement has adversely impacted Hollywood males. “Sadly, I think that now young men are suffering from being labeled toxically masculine,” she said, “because of this rise of anti-maleness.”
“I believe that women are equal to men in every single way,” said Collins, who identifies as a feminist. “Except physical strength. People say you didn’t burn your bra, you wear lipstick. So what? I’m very proud of being a woman,” adding “that she hates being called an actor, preferring actress.”
“What’s wrong with actress?” she said. “What’s wrong with mother? What’s wrong with woman? Girl? I don’t like having that word taken away,” she said.
Collins also spoke of #MeToo in a 2018 interview with The Guardian, telling the outlet that knowing what men are like, she would have never gone to the hotel room of a producer.
“It seems to me actresses who are saying, you know, ‘I went up to this producer and he took his d**k out and I froze.’ I mean, I’m sorry, you don’t freeze you go, ‘Stop that, I’m leaving.’ I just gave them a knee in the groin. It’s hardly suffering. You just didn’t put up with it,” she said.
As for social media? She has no use for it.
“I don’t want to engage in any way, shape or form with these morons,” Collins told The Sunday Times in 2021.
“People can’t say what they think, because they’ll get canceled,” she added. “Dredging up tweets from 15 years ago, about what somebody might have said when they were 14, I think that’s sick.”
