X CEO and DOGE chief Elon Musk doesn’t appear to be backing down anytime soon.
Amid extreme backlash from Dems for rooting out government corruption, the top dog at DOGE has come out in favor of eliminating “entire agencies.”
The now infamous agency of USAID has been severely cut back after revelations of egregious and most likely criminal waste, but remnants of it remain, and according to Musk that might not be the best approach.
“I think we do need to delete entire agencies, as opposed to leaving part of them behind,” Musk said Thursday to the World Government Summit in Dubai. “Because if you leave part of them behind … it’s kind of like leaving a weed. If you don’t remove the roots of the weed, then it’s easy for the weed to grow back. But if you remove the roots of the weed, it doesn’t stop weeds from ever growing back, but it makes it harder.”
ELON MUSK: “We need to delete entire agencies. We need to remove the roots of the weed. That’s not to say there won’t be an increase in future bureaucracy from another administration but it will be from a lower baseline. Nothing is forever but we can strengthen the foundation.” pic.twitter.com/1vaDLaXYqJ

“So we have to really delete entire agencies, many of them,” Musk continued.
“We really have here the rule of the bureaucracy, as opposed to the rule of the people democracy,” he said. “We want to restore rule of the people.”
“And so, what that means is reducing the size of the federal government, basically reducing regulation,” he added. “You know, there’s a tremendous amount of overregulation that’s happened over time.”
Plenty of folks eager for relief from a bloated and overreaching government agreed:
Milton Friedman said as much. Most of the big agencies came out of the FDRs New Deal and then it grew from there, so we didn’t start out this way.
I don’t know if this will work or not, but all the global social entitlement programs are on a trajectory to collapse financially,…

Mr. Musk is exactly correct. These actors in the current agencies will simply rearrange their setup if they are not completely rooted out. There may be some good people that can be vetted and rehired after their activities have been scrutinized.

If we cut the Department of Education in half, then in a few years it will grow right back to where it was. If, however, we eliminate it altogether, then it is much harder and slower to start it again and grow it back to the gigantic size that it is.

Just like the garlic mustard in my yard. You’ve got to get it all out of there.
