Elon Musk steals the show in Beijing with charming antics

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, was a member of President Donald J. Trump’s delegation to China, along with Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang and Apple CEO Tim Cook, but more than one person felt like the Tesla and SpaceX boss stole the show.

Trump traveled to Beijing for a summit with Xi Jinping and invited America’s top business leaders along to “work their magic” on expanding access, investment, and trade deals with China.

In a charming short video shared on X, Elon Musk is seen chatting, smiling, checking his phone, and warmly engaging with fellow attendees — including Tim Cook — during a formal banquet, though his autistic traits seemed to be on full display. At one point, Xiaomi CEO and Chinese billionaire Lei Jun stopped by for a selfie, and Musk’s facial expressions showed he was somewhat uncomfortable but still making a genuine effort to be gracious.

As previously mentioned, there was a suggestion that Musk stole the show with his presence, becoming the “main” attraction:

Turns out, as he is wont to do, Musk brought his 6-year-old son, X Æ A-Xii, along for the trip — the tyke was decked in Chinese-style clothing and wearing an over-the-shoulder tiger bag:

While he may appear awkward at times, few disagreed that Musk acted like he was having the time of his life — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
