California Gov. Gavin Newsom traveled to Michigan this week as a prelude to his expected White House run, but the trip apparently didn’t pan out as Newsom may have hoped — and it could be his own fault.
One significant fault was that Gov. Newsom failed to meet with Virgie Rollins, who chairs the Democratic National Committee’s Black Caucus, according to Politico.
“Every Democratic president that has won an election has been in my house,” Rollins said. “I did not hear from him. I did not get a call.”
Her remarks came after she was reportedly invited to chat with Newsom by a liaison — interestingly, the governor shared a post about meeting with other black leaders while in Michigan:
Detroit and Los Angeles have a lot in common — cities defined by resilience, reinvention, and generations of Black and Brown leadership. And both have been targeted by Donald Trump because of it.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, who is also seen as a powerbroker in Michigan, told Politico that she was snubbed by Newsom.
“I didn’t hear from the governor. I didn’t expect to: I’m a car girl,” Dingell said in an apparent jab at California’s heavy-handed push for zero-emission vehicles and a ban on new gas car sales.
A meeting with the United Auto Workers’ president reportedly fell through as well, and two planned fundraisers were also cancelled.
Newsom appeared to struggle in drawing a crowd, as noted by Spencer Pratt, who was robbed of an opportunity to challenge Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, courtesy of late-arriving mail-in ballots.
“Gavin Newsom just had 2 fundraising events in Michigan cancelled because of his embarrassing low turnout. Nobody likes this creep outside of CA. I told you…he ain’t the guy,” Pratt posted on X.

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on X:
I have to disagree with you there. I don’t think people in California actually like him either. There may be some people that have voted for him, but they don’t like him. The reason I believe he won elections is due to excessive fraudulent votes.

Just a reminder, Democrats don’t need actual voters to win.
They don’t even have to be alive.😆 pic.twitter.com/zPaf33wvGv— Randy One (@RanDeeOne2) August 12, 2026
Newscum has no chance of winning a national election (without cheating bigly). I almost encourage him to make it to the top of the D-ticket come 2028, he will be exposed for all the horrific policies he’s done (never forget his dinner at French Laundry 😏).

I think old Gavy has come to the realization that America is not looking for a pompous, jealous, cowardly and corrupt snake oil salesman to lead this beautiful Republic! He’s caused enough damage to California with fires, drugs, fraud, crime, homelessness and sh*t in the streets!
