An alleged “assassination plot” from a pro-Trump political consultant reportedly sparked a U.S. Capitol Police investigation as a supposed target cried foul: “Stone put a hit out on me.”
Mediaite’s report on comments attributed to Roger Stone from 2020 has escalated from “click-bait” to case file over the supposed threat to California Rep. Eric Swalwell (D) and New York Rep. Jerry Nadler (D). Since releasing details of remarks said to have been made to then-NYPD Officer Sal Greco followed by a clip from the audio, the outlet added Tuesday that USCP is being aided by the FBI in investigating former President Donald Trump’s supporter.
Talking up the gravity of the alleged comments, Swalwell provided a statement to Mediaite that read, “The Roger Stone assassination plot recording may seem like the ravings of a wannabe gangster. It’s not. This is what Trump and his real-life thugs do: they try to intimidate opponents and will always choose violence over voting.”
“Because I’m one of Trump’s loudest critics, Stone put a hit out on me,” the congressman charged. “This threat, and other threats of violence by Trump and his supporters, must be taken seriously by not only law enforcement but also by my colleagues. Both parties, not just Democrats, must condemn this violence. Unity will always be the best antidote against further violence.”
The comments attributed to the Republican operative were said to have been made to Greco in 2020 at Caffe Europa, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida restaurant, where Stone allegedly said, “It’s time to do it. Let’s go find Swalwell. It’s time to do it. Then we’ll see how brave the rest of them are. It’s time to do it. It’s either Nadler or Swalwell has to die before the election. They need to get the message. Let’s go find Swalwell and get this over with. I’m just not putting up with this sh*t anymore.”

Concluding his statement, Swalwell addressed a specific from the audio and remarked, “Finally, Stone said that I and Trump’s enemies need to ‘get the message.’ Well, I and the voters have a message for Stone and Trump: we are still here and we are not going away until we bury MAGAism and make sure America’s democracy endures.”
In response to the alleged comments, Stone had responded by claiming, “If there is such an audio it would have to be illegally obtained and if there is such an audio it would have to be an AI generated fraud since I never said any of the words attributed to me.”
“What was Officer Greco’s response to my alleged comments? Gee, they don’t say. From an anonymous source? Sure. It’s a fraud. I’m click-bait,” he added.
Since that reaction, Mediaite has followed up, posting a segment of the alleged tape. Stone’s adamant denials were not equaled by Greco who did not deny having the conversation with the political consultant. The former cop, who had been fired by the NYPD in 2022 for his associations with Stone, told the outlet in a statement, “I don’t think your reader is interested in ancient political fodder.”
