Ex reality star Spencer Pratt set to potentially trounce LA Mayor Karen Bass, polls show

Incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s campaign is reportedly scrambling amid polls showing her Republican opponent potentially trouncing her.

The proof comes courtesy of an email sent last Thursday by Bass’s campaign adviser, Douglas Herman, to her supporters.

In the email, which was reported by TMZ, Herman revealed that the campaign’s internal pollster, Binder Research, has confirmed that reality star Spencer Pratt, a Republican, is performing well enough to make the November runoff election.

While the initial mayoral election will be held on June 2, there will be a runoff in November if neither candidate receives over 50 percent of the vote, which is a real possibility.

In the letter, Herman also brought up Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman, a “progressive” who’s also running in the race.

“Herman argues Raman is nowhere near the level of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani in terms of ‘name awareness, unified base or favorable appeal’ in L.A. … adding that with just over 70 days until primary ballots are mailed to voters, Raman faces a steep uphill climb,” according to TMZ.

Meaning that Bass’s primary concern remains Pratt — and for good reason.

When TMZ last spoke with Pratt earlier this month at an event, he was extremely confident he could win the race.

“Thankfully, before this event, the LA Times came out with what I’ve known since November, that Karen Basura has literally obstructed justice and took the LAFD after-action report and altered it, which is a crime,” he said. “So she’ll probably be facing criminal charges. I don’t even think she’s going to be able to run for mayor.”

Basura is Spanish for “trash.”

LAFD is short for the Los Angeles Fire Department, whose action report pertaining to the Palisades Fire was reportedly altered by Bass’s office.

“So, even regardless of my party, just the news today, I think it’ll be really easy to become the mayor of LA because she’s probably going to jail,” Pratt continued.

He then pivoted to talking about changes he intends to make to the city if elected mayor.

“One thing that everyone in LA is sick of is our streets covered in homelessness,” he said. “We spend billions, they’ll say hundreds of millions, whatever, to literally increase the problem. The first thing I’m going to do is bring in the criminal investigation team from the IRS to look at all the books and see all the scammers that are stealing our taxpayer money and increasing homelessness. So we’re going to do homelessness.”

We’re going out for crime. We’re going to make sure cities don’t burn down anymore, and people burn alive. Some pretty basic things that Karen Basura is clearly not doing,” he added.

Pratt also dismissed concerns about him being a reality star.

I would say I haven’t been called a reality star celebrity in a long time, so I’ll take that compliment first,” He said. “And second, what I am is a Los Angeles native, born and raised here. And at the end of the day, my party is LA native. So people are like, oh, he only cares about the Palisades. They burned the Palisades down.”

Now I’m fighting for Los Angeles. So what I say to them is if you want a career politician that wants to keep stealing your tax money while the city gets worse, then you vote for the scams. But if you want somebody that wants to come in and clean up, then vote for, as you say, thank you for calling me a celebrity,” he concluded.

FYI, Pratt lived in the Palisades, the area of California that was hit by a horrific wildfire in early 2025.
